Would you, have you taken a child wheelin? how young was he/she
My daughter used to love it, she was 2, in the car seat in a 73' blazer (top removed) boggin was her favorite
My son now 3 1/2 just went for his first mud bog ride, strapped in of course but no car seat. took it easy and he had a blast.
I also wheeled him around out at the mounds last year, but we kept it pretty tame ( did'nt want to scare him )
How young is too young?? or does it depend on the child
i think alot of it has to be the child my son was less then a year old on his first ride and he slept most of the way, the girl on the other hand she was almost 4 and didn't like it still don't. but oh well i got one lil bogger so it's all good GotMud?
I don't have any kids but I agree that it has a lot to do with the kid I tryed taking my niece with me once and she was fine untill I went to go up a fairly steep hill. But I say get them started early it may help keep them out of trouble when they get older.
I had my 4 (quads) on the dunes when they were 1 years old. They loved it, slept most of the time.
Yea, I took my youngest for his first ride on a quad when he was just 2 months old (1st gear with very little throttle) he smiled the whole time.
I think he means quadruplets...as in 4 babies, not a 4 wheeler...
It really depends on the parent and the child both. If the parent feels comfortable with it and if the child feels comfortable with it. Our youngest was 2 when we first took him out and he had a blast. He thought for the longest time that he owned the bronco that we had.
I really think it depends on the child. I have taken my son (he's 6) out to a few places now. He was a little scared at first, but now everything is how much horsepower (even the Hot Wheels trucks he has), how big are the tires, and does it have a chevv !
my earliest memories are bouncing around in the back seat of a new ih scout up north.
if the child can walk, then i think its ok. if they can't support their own head, then it's not safe, they stand the chance of injury.
and by the way..i remember hitting my head on the roof of the scout....we didn't have car seats back then i guess...or seatbelts for that matter!
ahhhh..now we know why Jim is the way he is...
International brain damage...
Never to young .....

yup...thats it!
I agree with jeepinjimmer. Only if they can support their own head. My earliest memories are of hill climbing with my mom in her 76 Chevy pickup, on a home made cushion on the console. lol
guess I'm just a chip off the ol big block! ;D
Definitely, just old enough to support their own head and neck. And, like everything else in our sport, being responsible while wheeling. There could be nothing worse than a child getting injured while enjoying our sport. Across the road from me, a kid got ran over (years before I was here) during a mud bog and killed. Bad times. I take my nephew out with me every chance I get. I've taught him to "Hold on!' LOL, now if he sees me let go of the shifter in my truck he yells, "Hold on Big John, hold on!" All about the education and the continuation of our sport.
my little girl is 3 now she has been boggen and going to silver lake with me scince she was bout 5 months old she loves it and wants to god mudding every chance she gets just last weekend me and my little one went with better beaters wheeling at a buddys house as long as there not a newborn and can at least sit up there like a crunch wrap good to go
I feel if you have young kid with you your driving should be different... I dont have any kids but I have given lots of my friends kids rides and I aways take it easy, I throw some mud so the have a good time but I dont get on my rig like I would if the kid was not in it! safey frist!

I agree 100% I definately change my driving style with a little one in the truck, for safety the most but also so I don't scare them, then they won't want to come back.
I agree too...I drive a little easier with just about anybody else in the truck, unless I know for a fact that they can handle it...every time I have rolled, it was either by myself, or with my nephew Johnny in the truck...
if I'm by myself...wow, watch out!!!

Yep I can vouch for that last time I seen Johnny he was laughing and didnt know if he should video the roll over's (yes that plural) or help out.... So he did both
I was 5 months old when my dad took me wheeling down in the smokey mountains in tennesse been going ever since
i have 3 girls 1 loves the mud 1 sorta loves it rather do smokey burn outs lol and 1 is to young yet
my daughter was 2 when i first took her out to the mounds last november she allright but when it get to uneven terrans like truck climbing hill or the truck being lopsided she will whine... but i m hoping i ll break her in soon
Yes never to young, as long as the driver is old enough to know the limits of the child. Had my step daughter out on the trails at 3 mo. she loved it and as she got older the rides got rougher and longer, she now tells me age 14 "what thats it" Sometimes think she is'ent having any fun unless I break something.
Safety and age go hand in hand, I have 13, 11 and 8 year old boys, they know when it is ok to be loud and yell and scream and they know when they have to be quiet because I am spotting. My 13 year old has even gotten into the spotting some. But it is really up to the driver and if they feel comfortable taking the child with them. I know that our youngest has been riding with us since we had a truck to run with. It is a family oriented sport if you treat it as that. You have to teach the kids safety in and out of the vehicle. I know that when the boys are out of the truck they are always on the look out for other vehicles so that they are not getting hurt, or worse. This is a sport that can and will be handed down from generation to generation, at least in this family, I know that this is a family tradition that won't die without a fight.
After reading through this posting, I can see y'all are a safe and smart bunch! I have taken my kids boggin'(mildly) since they were just over a year old, my youngest is 4 now and he loves to bog! I can't fire up the truck without him wanting to ride, even if it is from the back yard to the front! I always buckle them in their carseats(if applicable) and seatbelts, plus tell 'em to "Hang on!!" They love it! I'm changing from a truck cab to a Jimmy body, so I'll have room for more kids! (I got four kids, no room for 'em in the truck cab)
Never to young if you use alittle bit of sense!! Mine was 1 1/2 yrs old. Doesn't remember it, but is a Four Wheeling fanatic now and he is 18yrs.
i just took my daughter for the first time yesterday and she loved it
both of my kids were concived camping at silver lake loll
grandson been with me off and on . from 4 yrs of age hes 5 now and got his LIC. ==roll back seat lic that is

I get criticized for it, but my little man was out at the Mounds at nearly 3 weeks old. We were at the Mounds the day before I went into labor trying to trigger it a little bit... (http://www.gotmud4x4.org/download%20pics/DSC00034%20(Small).JPG)
That is our truck in the background, my baby was sound asleep in the backseat, he was born 9-22-03. He is going on 4 now, and LOVES IT! Our daughter was over 2 when we started wheeling as a family, and she still isn't that big into going out, though we are working on breaking her in.
It has a lot to do with the person driving, and knowing the limits of the child that is riding with you.
me and my wife were riding down the road back when she was preg. she said my son was just a kicking he went to the mounds at about 1 1/2 he rides all my toys snowmobile,bike,4-wheeler but my girl she is scared to death so i think it depends on the kid
I think it depends on the kid and the driver. Obvoiusly you gotta take it easy with the kid in the truck. My daughter loves it and always has. The doctor told us that we weren't allowed to go wheeling past six and a half month of pregnancy. For her second Birthday I got her a Barbie power wheels Jeep and got it stuck in the mud in our backyard. Its how their raised, I hope someday she has a better bogger than me.
my dad started me erly now im a gear head im 14 and i drive like a pro arownd the field i throw mud every where got mud
long as they're strapped in ;D
probably depends on the child.
my son rode on a quad at 2 slow but he road on it. Then last year at 3 took a few rides in the Jeep around the property and Just now I got on pretty good and he loved it. He has love my Jeep from the day i showed it to him.
my son at 4 hated it now at 5 its all he wants 2 do but ive takin him 2 a few more bogs now my daughter is 7 she doesnt like 2 get muddey at all maybe when shes older but my 2 yr old daughter loves it also go figure they have the same mom got 2 be just the kid
I took heathers son for a ride in my big truck this weekend and I got on it very hard rev limiter and everything he just held on tight and rode it out! frist time he was ever in a real mud truck and he loved it!!! he now wants to ride all the time!
my daughter 11 my son 7 and my son 6 all love it i take them at the beginning of a bog when the pit aint to rutted with now top on the back of ramathorne i get scared that they will fall out even though they have to wear seat belts my neighbors kids love it to they are 6 and 8 his son even helps us work on the bogger or tires to anyway my babies are still to small in my opinion 17 months and 4 months but they go to the bogs with us and sit with momma who gets to scared to ride in the bogger i took her to lewis rd she went on half a ride and wanted out so we still use it as a family sport
my buddy steve has a banshee and he has a 2 yr old stevie and he loves it when dad rides wheelie with him on it and he love speed 5th gear full trottle he loves it its awsome i think when we are in the garage he sits on the banshee and o bing bing he love to ride it
I have 3 boys, 25, 22 & 14. They where raised trail riding, since they opened there eyes, they all been driving since about 10 years old. Used to have blocks made for gas and brake. They all love the mud.
When do you start to let them drive?
My 14 year old had a blast in the cj last time at rizzos
my dad took me to the dunes when i was 2
been taking my son out with me since I built the truck. he is 5. the wife is starting to yell at me cause he wants to start building something on tractor tires already. I do agree on changing the driving habits when the children are in your vehicle. Safety First.
I think it's awesome when people get kids involved but I hate it when they don't watch them. Not watching kids extremely closely=bad time for all. It stresses everyone out worrying about the kids.
i know last year my son wasnt that into it( he turned 2 in nov.) we took him to the mounds a couple times and he didnt like all the bouncing around but did like to watch the trucks and quads. lately he has gotten into monster jam on tv and always asks to watch the vids on here. so i think he is going to enjoy it more this year. and i agree with mlankton. i watch him like a hawk. some people out there dont watch out for you so i really doubt they care about the little ones. i have to watch the motorcycles so they dont run me over so i really have to watch my son. we have a harness for him so he cant go to far.
Id say it depends on the kid. Mine loves riding in the truck with me....sitting high and seeing everything. hes not even 2 yet. Although I tried giving him a ride in the bobcat and he ran from me. lol I guess he dont like loud turbo diesel.
I've taken my step-son (6), my niece (7) and both of my nephews (4 and 5), I haven't taken my daughter yet, but she's only 8 months old, none of my vehicles go anywhere inless everyone is properly strapped in, doesn't matter how slow or fast, or if its on or off road...
education is the way it is use comman sence. if they dont walk, dont talk, they dont bog.

Never to young .....
I was wheelin since birth and my son started at 6mos.! Of course, just creepin at the dunes, but wheeling none the less!
my sons first bog was at 7 days old,
now at 5 we cant keep him out of the mud or the truck
hes got his own little mud hole
well i took my daughter out when she was 3 and she is hooked my son when he was 4 and my youngest boy when he was 3 they all r hooked i really think its up to the parents
took my 7year old and 1 year old to silver lake in july they loved it
my oldest two have been camping and trail riding since there were about 1. but the twins were born in december and in april they were buckled in their carseats and night and we would take em out driving trails and the bay shore to get them to fall asleep. now they love it. except the youngest of the twins. she dont liek to be dirty. (p.s. she cant be mine lol).
I think as long as you use common sense with the kids in the rig then its all good. THey are NEVER TO YOUNG..
my nephew is 18 months and i tried over the fall to get him to ride with me but wouldnt leave mommys side. now the 1st thing he says when he opens his eyes is truck trucks trucks. its how i put him to sleep if i watch him the vids on here and youtube so im sure come spring time he will be ready
Depends on everything where your at what truck u have been trail rideing and so on with 2 year olds in car seats but as for mud bogs high hp. trucks no car seat kids
