good luck there not fun...took me awhile to get it right on my teachers car a few years ago...BTW they use a timing belt not a chain gonna need to locate the timing marks and line them all up. a shop manual is the only real way to go about it...

Incorrect.

The 3.4 DOHC uses a chain AND a belt.  There are no timing marks on the cam pullies and it requires special tools and proceedures to set the timing up.   I have never seen the timing chain portion of the cam drive fail, it's always been the belt, pullies, or tensioner.

If you are interested I can set your motor up with a new belt and whatever else on the belt drive portion of your cam timing for $150 plus parts.  If you need the chain portion of the cam drive we'll have to talk.  I'm located near Bay City (I do my repair work in Auburn not far from Bay City)

The 3.4 is a good motor with the exception that most mechanics are afraid of it because it is fairly complicated motor to work on.  One thing to be careful about is an oil leak coming from the back of the motor.  These engines have an oil pump drive similar to 3.1s located near the rear of the engine.  The o-ring goes bad and lots of oil can leak out because it is under pressure.  The problem with the 3.4 is that the rear cylinder head needs to come off to gain the clearance required to replace the oil pump drive o-ring.  10.5 hours required to replace that o-ring.  My charge would be $525 plus parts if required.

If you would like me to fix this thing PM me and I will give you my contact info.  Please feel free to ask other Got Mud members about my repair work or reputation.  Thanks.

another thing u have to find out is if its an interferance motor.......cuz if the motor is, and it broke that belt and spun over for a few seconds it could have damage valves and pistons.....

This is not an interference motor.

Glad it worked out for you.  I was sorta wanting to fix this for you.  I like working on those engines for some strange reason.
