Title: conversion question...
Post by: dale48610 on July 19, 2008, 03:47:37 AM
i have 2 92 ford explorers, one is a four door and the other is a two door, i took off all the good parts of the two door and junk it. now i am in the process of put the 5 speed where there once was a auto... the problem i think i am gonna have is the rear drive shaft... so i guess what i'm askin is am i gonna have to have one made or will the auto driveshaft work.... the 2 door driveshaft is about a foot shorter...i didn't even think about the drive shafts before i started this project...

I'm not very familier with fords but take a tape measure and measure the length of both trannys. if they are the same length or close you might be alright. Remember you said one's a 2 door and the other's a 4 door there is gonnna be a difference in driveshaft lenght, since the 2 door is shorter. HTH GotMud?

ok , all done with the swap out.. ended up using the 4 door driveshaft... but  now it won't lock into low ranger...i knew i should of got a lever transfer case instead of using the  piece of  ==censor electronic shift...  ==pissed....

i do believe so cuz it will go into high range... just don't want to go to low....

i think thats a shift motor issue, my cousins ranger started doin that to him before he traded it in
