Title: code jumping
Post by: KORNBREAD on July 22, 2008, 10:28:43 PM
ok i have a question about car codes. i know that you need to have a check engine light on or had it come on in the past to run a scan ( i think thats right) but i heard that you can jump a conector with a wire or something in your vehical and watch how many times your check engine light flashes.  is this true?  is it with newer cars like 96 and up or only 95 and down. cause isnt it in 96 they switched to obd2? anyways if you can do this how do i do this?

I have an '03 Wrangler and i was able to get the codes by turn the ignition on and off 3 times and the codes would come up in the odometer window. Not sure what the method is on other vehicles. I'm sure if searched the internet you could find something. Good Luck!

im not shure about all the obd2 stuff but will all my chevy's i've been able to jump the middle 2 prongs right next to each other with the key on and test it, or u could go to like auto zone, or any other major parts store and they usally will scan it for u or let u borrow the scanner

ok on chevy I know that as long as it has the obd 1 system it can be jumped. which is 95 and older. 96 and newer has the obd 2 system that you have to have a scanner. as for ford and the rest I dont know I dont work on them. make sure you have the key off when you jump it. you will want to jump the two wires A and B. if you get a haynes or chilton manual it will tell you how to do it.
