I am getting ready to finely pull the engine from my wife's 96 s-10 blazer 4-wheel drive with a 4.3. I got most of the stuff done except unbolting the torque converter and that's where I am stuck. According to my Chilton there should be some brackets the run from the trans to bell housing bolts and none to be found. It also states that there is a flywheel access cover to remove after said brackets are removed, again no go. What I have is a solid cast alum. bell housing with 2 small round pop out covers. They nether one allow me access to the bolts. Do I pull the torque converter with the engine or is there something I'm missing that Chilton is not telling me? This is not my first engine pull or rebuild. Please help me with this as I'm about to fix it with a stick of dynamite. Thanks in advance.
there should be 6 bolts holding on the inspection cover the cover is cast aluminum so it may look like it's part of the tranny but it's not, as far as the bracket's the only ones I can think of are if it's got the ones that bolt to the bottom of the inspection cover and run up to the motor mounts they're hard to miss.
unless they are refering to the brackets on the belhousing for, trans dipstick, fuel lines, and heat shield for the starter wires which if this is the case you will have to remover them before you pull the belhousing bolts since they would be held to the bolts with a nut.
thats the thing there is NO inspection cover it is solid. ill get a pic of it

He is correct. That is the only way it's comin' out. The top bolts on the bell housing are a stinker to get and there are some ground wires bolted to the back of the passenger side cylinder head too. Its a tough job but you can do it.
took care of the top bolts. i took off the whole intake and made lots of room for those stinkers. thanks guys for your help i was goin nuts.
to get the torque converter bolts you need to pull the starter, and access them from the front of the motor...
as far as the top bolts.. get a TON of extentions and a knuckle.. makes it ALOT easier
Its on the floor. Thanks to all.
