I have an 85 z28 with a 355 and 5spd and I was suppose to trade it today but when the guy pulled out and got up to speed it stalled in 5th gear. We got it restarted and it stalled again so i had to jump him and then I drove it back to my house and stalled in 5th but when I downshifted to 4th it refired and drove back home just fine. It idles at about 900 but when its in 5th its at like 500. We are thinking maybe the timing is bumped to high or the spark plugs are bad?? Any ideas??? He really wants the car and I want his truck. I did notice the vac line for the brakes was out to wear it may have caused a leak. Any help is great.

yeah its charging. My buddy just gave me an idea. He sad it sounds like the accelerator pump is bad since it has no problems in any othe rgear just when its in 5th and the rpms drop.

I doubt it's a carb problem since it only does it in 5th gear the accelerator pump squirts gas EVERY time you push the gas peddle. So you don't notice anything any other time ??? have you done somthing to the car recently ???
The only thing I did was change the carb since the old one was leaking gas and the secondaries were froze so i put the carb from my truck on it.
The car only dose in it 5th and acts like its running out of gas unless you are in it and keep the rpms up.
I fixed it. It was the accelorator pump that was bad.
