Title: LADDER BARS
Post by: MudStrocity on August 04, 2008, 08:38:02 PM
I have way to much axle wrap eating rear drive shafts.  I got  some ladder bars but not sure where to mount them on the axle, on top of,in front of or under neath.

here's a few pics of my setup I built myself and have NO axle wrap problems and it also doesn't cut down on the amount of flex I have  By the way I'm running 42's now ;) ;)

I had the same setup as MudBuster on my last Samurai and it worked great.  Samurai pig is off center so I put it right in the middle.  After 3 years of dropping the clutch I ripped it off the axle.  It was half on the center section and half on the tube.  Samurai axle tubes are not the thickest.  Next time I will put a bracket on the back side of the axle also, all the way around the tube.  Then stitch weld it 1 inch on and off so I dont weakin it so bad in one spot in the front.

This site should help with some info.

MudBusters is 2nd from the bottom labeled Ladder bars.  Shackled on the crossmember.  No wrap here no way.  Mine was threaded, but I spot welded the jam nuts.  It had a heim joint.  TSC 3 point bars.

Later Todd

This is my setup. 1/4" bracket bolted on with every bolt on 3rd member. More 1/4" for bracing. A tube within a tube, inner tube has holes in it at the bottom and a grease fitting at the other end. It is u bolted to the axle. It slides in and out, and pivots to allow complete travel.
