Title: all yall have some pretty sick rigs so i got a tech ?
Post by: kensdodge1 on September 06, 2008, 04:48:25 PM
i mounted my rad in the bed of my truck and that works great but i seem to be overheatin my tranny . I ran the tranny cooler threw the rad and then threw the cooler . i ran some trails and some bogs prolly a total off about 8 -10 runs total . my fluid is burnt and its lookin as if im loosin low gear . so i guess what im askin is how or where do i mount my trans cooler and should i use an aux. fan on the cooler and bypass the rad ? thanks yall .

put the trans cooler under the hood, without running it thru the rad. i would put a fan on it, but YOU MUST HAVE A SHROUD FOR IT TO WORK!!!

change the fluid first!  then remount and use a elctric fan to cool.

i have  mine in the back of my rig  through the exturnal cooler on rad in the back.   and have the  fan from rad pull air through,  and have no trouble

I think part of the problem is the transmission itself.  It sounds like your first gear clutch pack is wearing out or your front pump is not suppling enough pressure to keep the clutches from slipping.  This slipping is what may be turning your fluid brown.

Install a transmission temp. gauge and you will know when you are having problems before you melt the tranny down.
