Title: To weld or not to weld?
Post by: 85mudbogger on October 09, 2008, 02:04:48 PM
Im tired of pulling up to a little mound or rock and not being able to get my front tire up on it and just sitting there spinning and then have to back up and hit it hard then a little sami pull up and go right up it with no throttle. This is a jeep cheerokee with a stock dana 30 in it and chrysler 8.25 welded in back 3.55 gears and 33s. Should i weld the front up? heres why im thinking about doing it. I got a dana 44 and 14b 4.56s and 38.5 hawgs waiting to go under it thru the winter. Also its gettin a 496bbc 350th and 208 but all thats waiting till i run out of parts. i have spare axles and stuff so what you guys think, WELD IT????

i would get a locker if the axles were staying in it but when i run outta jeep parts its getting converted to chevy axles. So spending money on something small like a dana 30 seems like a waste of money to me, thats why im thinkin WELD.

Weld it up then.  You will be amazed at how tempermental your steering will become.

aussie locker for the 30 front is under $300, and it ratchets so you can turn. i hope you are going to reinforce that unibody when you put that motor in there

Before I put the locker in the front of my rig, I broke a set of spider gears and it was causing my front axles to lock togther.  It was a miserable day of backing up and trying again whenever I had to make a turn.
