Title: Torsion Bars

trying to install new torsion bar keys in my 1996 yukon... is there some kind of trick for moving the torsion bar out? i have it unbolted but they are both solid and wont move to get the keys out i tried pb blaster, hammer, air chisel nothing will budge it   i dont know what else to try ==cuss

pound them out through the back to the front. (start from the rear of torsion bar and pound forward) make sure all the preload is out too.

You say you have the bolts out but do you have the piece that the bolt threads into out ??? if so the just have to lube, pray and beat. they are probobly rusted in I hate to say it but I have had to cut the bars with a torch before,  ==doh but at least then you have a stong 5 foot long pry bar ==roll

if you have to use the torches to heat them up and then hit with a sledge

yeah i have everything out, ran out of acetylene tonight so i couldnt get it heated enough to budge them

you don't wanna heat the bar itself. if you do it will be junk it's just like heating any other spring

X2 you take all of the "tension and elasticity" out of the bars!!! don't do that!!

heat will ruin the torsion bars. it is like heating a spring, you loose all tension in it.
