Title: Doesn't make sense, eh? Can't report your own post for help from a Mod?
Post by: PavementPounder on November 05, 2008, 02:24:17 PM
What is it that really doesn't make sense here?  Not being allowed to ask for help on your own post?   ???

Pretty much every other site known to mankind allows a poster to report his own post in order to ask for help from a Mod.  Even the nazi Mods on NAXJA conceded that it didn't make sense for users to not be able to report their own post to ask for assistance.

All I wanted to do was point out a Sold item that was still in For Sale and had been overlooked.  The required chain of clicks to PM someone due to a member not being able to report their own post takes about 10 times as long (literally).  Kind of defeats the purpose of that functionality.

From my experience at that sort of thing on GL, having Members doing any sort of "Mod work" for themselves doesn't work - simply because you can't rely or trust them to actually do it or do it right.  Hell, its hard enough to get people to actually add "Sold" to their sold items.   ;D  You'll have all kinds of jacked-up threads in there.  People will create a new thread stating that the item in their existing For Sale thread is sold instead of actually moving the real one, etc.  I'm actually kind of surprised that you have the Sold Forum open to new threads, anyway.  GL had a spammer create a bunch of threads in their Completed Sales Forum just this morning.

you are prolly right, i have a few mods, RD, Chetney & Corey   I know for sure they move things to sold section,as long as they are marked sold that is, it is hard as hell to get people to add sold to something they have sold...  ==dunno
as far as sold section, i set it up so people can see when things are sold, i didnt really put alot of thought into it, havent had no one start threads there yet ==roll everyday is a new day... but ya never know  ==dunno

I mod the sporting good section too, have the same "Sold" issue..
if an item has been dormant for 90 days I send a PM to the seller about the status of the item..
no response or it's been sold or no longer for sale etc... I delete the item.

JeepForum is currently turning their Classifieds upside-down, but one of the features that they employed that I found to be a great idea was a little drop-down box that appears when creating ot editing the thread.  It let you choose between "For Sale" and "Sold" and your choice appeared next to the thread in the Forum Index.  Made it more noticeable to all, including the author.
