Title: stihl chainsaws, plasma cutter, welder, tools stolen in Waterford
Post by: jamesm on November 10, 2008, 01:12:49 AM
I own a tree company and park the trucks in Waterford at a boat storage yard around Cass Lake and Elizabeth Lake- fenced in, motion lights, alarm on  the shed, and multiple locks on the shed and the truck. Anyway I said all that to say that last Tues. night we were robbed for the third time this year and five Stihl saws, a Powermax 1000 plasma cutter, Lincoln mig welder, a full set of Dewalt 18V cordless tools, a weedwhip w/ chainsaw attachment, hedgetrimmers, floor jack, auto dark welding helmet, battery charger and a whole lot of wasted time for repairs and replacing tools. Anyway I found the saws up at Dixieland Market in Waterford with a guy that sells up there. He says he got them from a guy named "Gene" w/ a 80's model Ford truck green w/ black spray touchups. He says "Gene" has longer than shoulder length dark hair 50-60 years  old 5'10" to 6' and comes up there trading fairly regular. He also said that he doesn't think that Gene stole the stuff but I want to know where he got the saws. I have insurance but it's not going to cover everything because it's a small tool policy. These guys are trying run us businesses out of business. In April I had two new snowblowers stolen, in June me and my neighbor got it for close to $30k, two weeks later he had an enclosed trailer stolen with 2 zero turns taken, now this brings me to about $21-22k in loss for this year. Wed. night another tree company 2 miles away was hit and they took his tools out of his garage inside his fence w/ dogs. If anybody knows "Gene", if he's even a real guy and I not being fed a line of BS, get in touch with me or Waterford cops - Det. Lemos. Anything you know would be great, if we didn't have insurance I would probably be out of business with these losses. Post if you had similar events so we know what we're dealing with when we buy stuff

set up a motion camera and have it linked to your house.   then either call the cops or "take care of business" yourself if you see someone on the camera.

watch craigslist.  that seems to be where everything shows up.   i know how it feels I had 2 mig welders and air tools stolen from my garage a few years ago.

Yeah it's hard enough to make it without having to rebuy stuff, three days off this week for the guys working for me. I gave my toy truck last fall for another work truck. I had Carl's red and white 90' F150 12" lift, came out to your house Dave to pick up motor and trans. Traded it for a 95 F250 powerstroke. Thanks everybody let's keep a look out for everybody and maybe we can keep this crap out of our neighborhoods.

Yeah it's a pain, as I said it's the third time this year and around $22k in losses. Weingartz in Waterford had $150k in mowers stolen out of the backlot this summer. They said up there that there is a huge amount of replacement stuff being bought. They heard about the theft and that I would be coming before I even got there from my neighbor(we were both hit in June and replaced everything then). Their good guys up there, they said if I needed anything else and didn't have cash in hand just call. I would never do that, what if the insurance didn't pay enough for me to reinmburse them immediately? Anyway I appreciate all the response. Detroit and Troy cops busted a ring with some (alot) of Weingartz, Home Depot, Target and private stuff last Wed., then I heard Detroit cops raided three flea markets on Sat. but haven't seen any news on it. The Watreford cops said if I want those saws I had to buy them back for what the guy paid but I don't know what the insurance company wants me to do yet, and I'm not spending the money and then not get it back . Waterford cops have like seven officers on days (not traffic) and only a few detectives so they really don't have time to prioritize theft when all the other crap is going on.

They don't have time my ---!  See if the State boys can follow up, let them know what you found out from Winegartz. This could be bigger than a few small petty crooks. From the sounds of it, all the local police departments are turning their heads to this. It really sets me off! I think they turn their heads cause traffic control pays BIG money to the departments and stolen property dept.s cost money. THE GREED FACTOR RUNS WILD IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT TOO! There is most likely overtime for  court, in traffic violations and D.U.I.'s.
What really bothers me is they try to paint the picture that the police are too busy looking for murders and rapist, and  that a petty thief is nothing but a cost of doing business.
I don't know when it happened. When the police force changed into a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS.
OK, I will stop. I hope you get your stuff back.

I didn't think about the state boys angle, that might be something to look into. I have all my serial #'s, I'm hoping that the big bust last week in Detroit and Troy will turn up something interesting.

People have been doing these things since the beginning of time, it's just that now we have the media informing us via TV and internet of these goings on, when it used to be word-of-mouth. It's not just America.
