ok so as time goes by and my kids progress further in skool im noticing a few things.....
1. It seems that every child has a label not by kids anymore but by teachers staff
2. When we were kids you didnt have ADD or ADHD you were just anormal active kid maybe a little hyper
3. The teacher to student ratio isnt that much different then it was back when i was in skool yet the teachers are "overloaded"
4. They seem to think that all kids need to be on some sort of medication for there hyper activity (see ADD ADHD comment)
Maybe its just me and a few other parents i have talked to but it seems that the skools only want our children to go sit in their seats like a bunch of zombies and not do anything
What happened to the old days when a kid went to skool and just was a kid i understand that times have changed but have they really changed to the point where we need a bunch of highly medicated conformist children walking around being exactly the same with no ideals or self expression just a bunch of "cookie cutter" kids if theyhad their way about it there would be no seperation all kids would be the same sounds kinda like communist russia to me maybe im just adding a little to much into this but i just dont think its right to "DIAGNOSE" all kids with some disease that no one ever heard of till about 10yrs ago and put them on a medication that hasnt been tested for long term effects ok im done ranting lol this is just my oppinion and not really worth much but wondering if anyone else felt this way??
If a kid is diagnosed with a disorder the school can get more money. Thats why there are more cases now than what there used to be. It's not about learning anymore it's about money. No child left behind, pass them thru no matter what.
it was the same way when i was in school. it ended up getting so bad that i had to end up dropping out because of it. i was told so many times that i had a "learning disability" or whatever the hell they wanted to call it. the fact is that i was an A student up till about 5th grade. after that when i started becoming a "person" that had ideas and a different way of acting, i wasnt normal. my grandma actually bought into all that until i was in high school. i never took any medication but they always said i needed something. it was so bad that up in high school, they decided to not give me credits anymore. our school system is a joke anymore and beyond how the teachers label our children, they have this absentee policy. if your kids miss more than so many days you dont get credit for school. i was always told that it was to get me ready for the "real world" but its just another way of making teachers lives easier. i respect what teachers should be, and some of them still are, but for the most part, they are a pain in the ass, and lazy. sorry if i offended anyone, but thats just my opinion.....
we had adhd & add, back then they called it being Hyper,
teachers & principles had there own medication... the PADDLE! and it worked for me,
knowin there was a a reaction(Ass Paddled) to my actions, kept me in check..
they took away the ass whippins & medicated everyone...
whats the world coming to... a bunch of medicated ZOMBIES!
DAM KIDS AND THEIR RAP MUSIC!!! lol but seriously... So many things are messed up with todays school systems, and to make it worse most school's are doing away with Auto, small engine, wood, metal shops all that just gone........ Its sad..
yeah they been tryin to get merv to retire (shop teacher) for the last 4 years.. he said he would have retired but now that theyre trying to make him hes going to stay.
It does seem like theres a buncha ADD stuff going around, and you also always get those kids who think its a big deal, and go.. dont mess with me i didnt take my meds today... like its sposed to be scary lol.
Im suprised they didnt tryn tell me i was any of that.. A+ student until 4th grade then failed every year up to 9th... then did good enough to graduate.
It is true that the schools get more money for children with a 'disability', but that is only part of it. They have so many teachers and staff restricted on what they can say, what they can teach, and how they can teach that it seems as though they read from the 'ciriculum' that they are given and that's it.
I just switched my son's school this past fall and it has made a WONDERFUL difference. He gets praised for do something well, they have conversations if they do something wrong (I have to brag here because I've only had to over hear one, not involving my son ;D ), followed by parents call and meeting if they don't straighten up.
But teachers have had it crammed down their throat to treat all children the same, so if you have a child that enjoys a challenge or has lost interest in school because of lack of challenge, they really get left behind because they are not allowed to single any students out. The new school district my son is in now does not seem to have this issue, but they are a smaller district that the one he came from.
I agree 100% that children are not getting the education they should because of ADD, ADHD, or whatever is treated by the drug of the month.

This reminds me of a post a while back called "Schools 1957 vs. 2007 or something like that. It's too bad. This is another example.
