i picked up a detroit tru trac from a member on here not that long ago and im thinkin about puttin it into the other front axle i have for my truck now instead of spring time like i planned. reason i wanna do it now is i found out my truck only has 3.73's and i wanna get my other axles that have 4.10s in teh truck. anyways my question is about the bearings on the locker itself. i was told the bearings were basically brand new and there doesnt seem to be a thing wrong with them. but i dont have the race that the bearing itself rides on when in the axle. so i was wondering can i use the race for each side that is currently in the front axle with the bearing on the locker or should i buy a whole new bearing kit for the front and just replace it. i havent looked into what one of these kits cost for this front axle but i just thought id ask and see.
and while im making a post and this will be my first axle that im going to set up myself what should the back lash on this be? right around 5-6 thousandths?
anyone?
==dunno
wish i could answer this......but I've never installed a posi unit before.
I would do some checking around, prices on (race kit).........if the bearings look good......then I'd stick with them.
ill probably take a ride out to will roudin's sp? and talk to him. he has done a few things for me before, and i stopped and talked to him before i even bought this unit for the front to see what he thought about me puttin it in there.
Get-R-Done and drive it in the snow and give us feed back. I was looking at these myself for my front 10bolt but I want to make sure my rig will steer well driving 45mph in a snow storm in 4WD. Also let us know how well it does off road ;D
The bearings will be fine. As for the back lash I need to know what axle it is. There usualy between 5 and 10 thousandths.
this truck doesnt get drove on the snowy roads or it is very little. but its going in a corp 10 bolt front axle
