i think i already know the answer to this but i wanna make sure first. im going ot be gettin rid of the drum brakes on my 14 bolt ff before i put this in the truck and i was wondering about the calipers and rotors i need. a few that i have ran across on ebay say you need ot use ones from 85 3/4 ton but shouldnt any caliper and rotor from a 3/4 frotn axle work? cuz i have a set of rotors and calipers that is on the front axle in my 82 right now. and i will be pulling this front axle out and putting the other 10 bolt front in that i have.
sounds reasonable, one thing u could do is call ur local parts store and see if the part #'s match between the 85 and 82, if so then u should be good to go
depends on size of brake hose.. some are smaller fittings than others depending on year...
other than that calipers are the same. any from 73-87 should fit, same with rotors, any 8 lug will work
I used Calipers and rotors off of a 79 3/4 ton for my rear dics and they fit fine, just order your brackets off of ebay, I used the bolt on kind but they sell weld on ones too.
I put a complete rear axle from a 2006 HD in mine, already had dual piston calipers on it, ask redneckmafia01 he just put one on his 80 k20.
from what I have been told, you can use dana 44 rotors and calipers but not 10 bolt ones, I bought everything for a 83 3/4 ton chevy when I did mine.
isnt an 83 3/4 axle a 10 bolt? i thought they stopped puttin 44's in trucks in the first half of 78
10 bolts and dana 44's (asumming they are both 8lug chevy's) use bassicly the same rotor (they may even be the same I'm not sure but I know you can interchange them.)
as far as the caliper goes you can use either with the bracket's that are ment for the newer metric calipers, when I did mine I use the ones off a 78 chevy and I had to do just a little grinding on the brackets to make the calipers fit. just make sure you get the hoses for the caliper you use the use 2 different size banjo bolts.
you can use everything off a 44 or 10b, axles are different but brakes are same, you can even use the front backing plates with a little fab.
Go to www.shakerbuilt.com I use his brackets he shows exactly what you need
