i found a 1983 ford ranger and this guy says its rare cause of the "factory stock"mazda" motor. Im not sure on this so maybe it is true or not you tell me.

Put a Ranger pick up and a Mazda pick up side by side sometime. They look strangely the same..........
they are the same, mazda got them from ford and changed the headlight panel and the tail lights a bit. They sold them this way until the 2nd generation of rangers, but they never sold a lot of them.
Ford used the diesel engines in the first gen ranger, but they are really really rare. If anything ever goes bad, you might as well park it in a field and call it a historical landmark that you are preserving for future generations! ==doh

if you have a good eye you can see they also changed the side windows on the back
