Title: Twitchy Pics and Vids on pg15 8-13
Post by: Chevy Racer on February 13, 2009, 04:12:06 PM
Went and did a little wheel'in and deal'in and brought this home.  Got it from riverrat.  305 marine motor, cam, headers,, edelbrock intake and carb, Th350, NP205, 14 bolt, 10 bolt, 4:10's, 38.5x14.5x15 Swampers.  I put a stock hood back on it and have to do some finishing.  I will update when I get it done.

I like the cowl too but you can't see with it.  It is on a 1982 3/4 ton full size frame.  Need a fuel cell, a painless kit, tach, gauges, and a few finishing touches and it's bogg'in.

Rear driveshaft was cut and will be put on tomorrow pending the weather.  The interior still leaves something to be desired but I am also putting a clutch in a Jeep I got from Swampthing so the going is a little slow right now.  More updates to follow.  Anyone got a cheap fuel cell??

I'm content with my little boat motor in it.  It's in my Driveway stop over and look at it.  Go to the stop light in town and look towards Frank's.  I live right next to it.

Twitchy got her feet wet at Gladwin and a local bog and now needs a timing chain.  Hopefully ordering parts this weekend.  Photobucket has a few pictures of the aftermath of Gladwin and I was on the front of the Midland news paper but it wasn't the greatest picture.

Post by: Chevy Racer on June 03, 2009, 02:26:23 AM
Well it wasn't a timing chain.  I bent a few. all 8 exhaust, valves somehow and got the heads changed already.  Twitchy is getting some upgrades:  Mallory Comp 9000 Distributor, Mallory Promaster Coil, and Mallory Hyfire 6AL box.

Post by: Chevy Racer on July 08, 2009, 11:08:41 PM
motor got splashed pretty good and it didn't help that the VACUUM LINE to the trans was off under water running.  I hit the whole 3 times and backed up twice with the line sucking the whole time.  Also the motor sits low in my truck compared to the body.

That hole is located on the Thumb Area Mud Runners Club property.

Took it to Thompsons ran here and tehre but had issues.  Took it to Delany and ran like a beast minus the box lost a mount and was floppy and I ran out of gas LOL and broke a u-joint on the front driveshaft.  Getting all the bugs worked out of it.  But up and running good.

Getting ready to tear it down for the winter.  Moving the radiator to the back with a couple electric fans, enclose the engine bay better and keep some of the mud off the motor, oil change, and it should be ready for next season.  Want to get the interior fixed up better also.  Add some sort of a dash and put my gauges in it.  Will get pics up as I work on it.  Also picked up a set or 44x18.5x15 Gumbo mudders that I am going try running next year.

Well got rid of the 44's for something a little better on tread.  Got 2 39.5 boggers for the rear and 2 40" gumbos for the front this year.  Should be throwing shovel fulls.  LOL

Well took it to Gladwin and had a good time.  Alternator went so I ran and got another one from the local parts store.  Was back in action and tearing up everything.  Shortly after I broke the trans in 2 or more pieces.  The rear part of the case is broke and it won't move.  Dam it.  New rebuild trans is in the future hopefully soon.

Well picked up another trans and got it back in the truck ready to go.  Working on getting the radiator mounted in the back and all the coolant pipes ran to the back.  Picked up a 4 core aluminum 31"x19" and a permacool aluminum blade electric fan.  Rewire a few things and I'll be back in the saddle again.  Hopefully.

radiator is in and plumbed.  Working on putting some sheet metal in the back to protect it.  Got to hook up the trans cooler and fab up some new headers since I didn't like the old ones.  Hopeing to be able to go straight through the hood wth them.

Custom fab new headers for it and run the trans lines and put on the trans cooler and front drive shaft.  O yeah and the torque converter bolts.

Gonna try for some uprights but I have to Custom fab them with the steering where it is.  Not having the radiator up front anymore made more room so I think I can get away with it.

Ready or not it will be there.  Even if I have to bog it with air in the cooling system it will take longer to over heat it than it will for me to blow the pit.  LOL  Hopefully.

go to the parts store chris, get  some 5/16 weld in bungs, and weld one at the front of the pipeing by the water pump, and one at the rear,  thats about the only possable way to get all of the air out of the cooling system, a couple of my biddies did that whnen they rear mounted there rads and they dont have a cooling problem anymore, all you need are 2 bleeders one up front and one at the rear...

Well Been a long time since I updated this one.  Its been sitting for a while and figured I better do something with it.  Changed to a 1 piece grill.  Pulled the BBC, it cracked over the winter even though I drained it.  Picked up a fresh 400+CI SBC with some goodies.  Hopefully have it going again within a short time.

Plugs are in and the oil pump got primed a few times.  Ended up having to tear the starter apart and cleaning it from lack of use.  PITA to get it back together but its back on.  All the bell housing bolts are in and tight, Balancer and crank pully on and tight, and got the distributor in and roughly in the right spot.

The 1.65 harland sharps are on and adjusted. Fires right up now that the timing is close. Going to get a lower temp thermostat and some race fuel hopefully this week. I'm sure it will like 110 more than the 93 I get down the street.  Getting closer to finally getting it dirty.

The stock hood or the Huge cowl one?  I run the stock one.  The cowl one is long gone.  I couldn't see crap with it on.

Should be going to get the trans this week and just picked up a D60 front.  Got a line on some 456 gears for it to match the rear.  Going to be a whole new truck when it hits the mud.  Might even have a set of uprights in its future. ;D

Thought about it.  I might just to see the difference.  Switching to the aluminum 208 case and I'm scared it will blow apart like it did on "Big Blue" and that had the same gears front and rear.  I know that was ALOT heavier but still might look for a 205 as a spare.

That setup has horrible bumpsteer characteristics.  Becomes real noticeable with soft suspension and lots of weight transfer.

I still got 3/4 ton leafs under it. My suspension is anything but soft.  LOL  About the only change lately is the old trans and case is out.  Got to get a new stall converter before the new one can go in.  Will probably change the starter to the new gear reduction one tomorrow.  Maybe mount the NOS bottle too.

Takes alot longer when you have to wrestle things yourself especially when everything weighs twice or more what I weigh. LOL  Only other major thing to do I have to haul it someplace and do it.  Got to get rid of that rear lift block so a shackle filp is next.

No more excuses.  Taking it into work, picked up a sponsor, and getting to work.  Push rods have been changed, found a front driveshaft that will work, and, thanks to the new sponsor, full access to a fully equiped fabrication shop, after normal work hours.  Just a matter of time now. It will see mud at Millington dam it, if not sooner.  Now whats your excuse???

Got the rear driveshaft cut down and put back on today with a new U joint.  Still need a new joint for the front but thats done too. Got all the brake lines hooked up.  Got 4 wheel disc.  Just got to bleed them.  Made 1 piece to enclose the engine compartment but got hungry and went home.  Got a couple people staying over to help tomorrow.  Should have the driveshaft loops done and the engine area water proofed better quicker with help.  Also got to wire a couple things but thats easy stuff.

I think the only thing still on the truck from when I got it is the stock hood. LOL  Everything else is different.

Current Stats: 400 SBC built a little, Edelbrock heads, Bow tie intake, Demon carb, TH 400 with 2400 stall built a little,  NP 208, D60 front and rear with Detriots and 6:17 gears, 39.5 boggers.

The other loop for the rear driveshaft is on now and a couple wires got ran to the trans cooler fan.  Both thanks to a couple guys that stayed after work with me.  Got the brakes bled and the starter changed to the gear reduction.  Needs a couple shims.  Looking forward to getting it dirty very soon.  Millington here I come.

Went over the truck a little bit today and found a couple things to fix.  Breather tube broke off the rear axle, little milkiness under the valve covers but none in the oil so it needs a good cleaning and retorque to be safe, and the rear springs seemed to have got caught after all the bouncing I did in the tractor tire class.  LOL
