Title: vortec heads
Post by: Squirell on March 08, 2009, 09:07:58 PM
are theses the same as tbi heads. or are they different. i am getting a 400 to put in my DD. and need it to have TBI so it has to accept a TBI manifold

no. completely different heads. way better then TBI heads. according to many sources they are the best flowing stock head since the L98 corvette heads. all you would need is a vortec style manifold with TBI to 4bbl carb adapter.

i want to be able to stay with the TBI setup though. not carb. so vortech heads wont work?

Or if money is not an object you can buy this manifold...myself I would probably go the other way. Not sure if the TBI manifold would flow better than the 4brl manifold with adaptor or not that might be something to look into? http://www.jegs.com/i/GM+Performance/809/12496821/10002/-1

I know GM performance parts sell them also but I dont know how much they cost...I seen them somewhere before myself for around the same price and this topic came up on GL4X4 and I could not find it.

After doing some homework Kodiak450r has the best solution! Much cheaper, flows just as good and can be made more versatile, for example I was reading a thread on another forum where someone was running vortec heads, a pretty big cam and used a single plane intake with a 454tbi and made power up to 6500rpm's and still made good bottom end TQ. I also read about the adapters though and some of them places the TBI more towards the back or the front of the manifolds opening (Stay away) and they make some that place the TBI right in the middle, those are the adapters you want. Also some people was complaining about some adapters being to thin and warping so make sure ya get a good thick one. Going to keep on doing some more homework on these mods as I may be looking to do the same this summer.
