what do you guys thing about using ropes instead of straps there is a company that says they are better then straps thinking about trying one www.theultimatetowandrecoveryropes.com
i dont no i like straps but worth a try
theres a guy in frankenmuth randy? sheoff that makes em out of 10 ton mooring line for ships
33% stretch. i have one, on my 20 foot rope it littleraly stretches on about 7 feet then u hit the end hard
and the stuck truck moves forward 7 feet, pretty awesome, hasnt let me down yet.
i think 60-70$ is what i paid for mine.i have his card at the shop. he can make them to any length u want.
hand braided ends and if u ever pull the end loop out give it back to him and he' fix it free
we have got a small one for are quads thats the only problem with it the ends come out so had to tie them
i would like to get his number i want one they have to work all the farmers use them were is he at in frankenmuth i now the area well
I've known of guy using them I don't see a problem with it as long as they are designed for it. look at it this way you can get synthetic rope to put in place of a winch cable now ==shrug
not saying that this product does not work, but the fact that there is an implied warranty against breakage does no good if you have to have it removed prior to being repaired... if ya know what I mean.
any recovery product is prone to defects/failure if not properly cared for or utilized in the proper fashion..
with the development of todays fibers the availablity of highly effective recovery straps/ropes etc.. is constantly improving,
but the purchase and use of any such "New" product should be used with extreme caution.. and the purchaser should always understand that "you get what you pay for".. always check out a product prior to purchasing for weight ratings and/or independant testings/ratings etc...
remember.. it's not just "Your" life that is in danger...
good luck.. I'll stick with my strap for now..

i heard straps are alot better and so mush jerk
53,000 rope Price: $129.99 20'
55,000 strap $99.00 30'
I saw someone use a rope today at glawdin, they hooked it up between 2 full size trucks, one of which was pretty stuck.. and on the first tug, the rope snapped in half. but other than that, i have no knowledge whatsoever about ropes.
I have acquired some @2 inch rope for using in recovery. 2 inch rope has @ 90,000lb rating. I have been using the 6 inch straps with a 65k rating. since I am using used ropes that may have defects in it I want a size with a higher rating to make up for any defects that I could not see after inspection.
I have done some research and do not find anything wrong with using rope.
I am posting up to see if anyone else has any experience with rope.
I can put eye splices in twisted rope, but not this kind. i used a bowline knot. there was an eye splice on each end, I cut the rope into 3 sections. 30ft, 60ft and 50ft. I found that tying each bowline knot used an extra 5 feet of rope.

I have a rope I got from 4x4ken. I like it better than a strap because it is lighter and easier to move around. I pulled mud king out with it Saturday

I bought this rope from some guy and it turned out to be too stretchy. It was like a rubber band!
My life depends on rope everyday. The rope i hang off is rated @7,000lbs and is only 1/2" in diameter.
Ropes aren't bad as long as you get the one for the right application for example using a lifting strap compared to a recovery snatch strap ++peace
i love my rope. 33% stretch, hits the end hard, hold the brakes and the other truck moves ==np
hardest ive used it is i pounded the hell out of it pullin our dead ford on tractors out of a swamp with
my chevy on 44s. bout 20 hard yanks, hard enough i had to put on my seatbelt or eat steering wheel.
im sold.. f straps ive gone thru 3 straps in the same amount of time ive owned my rope. all i can say is
get a good one and you wont be dissapointed.
Rizzo... you dont need a rope u need a 2 inch cable. the pulling you do with that tank you could
use chains and it wouldnt matter applaudd
we've used ropes straps shains and cables, as long as what your using is rated for MORE than what your gonna be putting it through you'll be fine, just take good care of what ever you buy and dont leave it sitting in your yard in the water mud and sun for a year and expect it to be ok.....it won't be

It is usually like that when I'm on dry stuff, but I end up giving it a little tug with the big trucks quite often. I have some big military chains. I use a 5/8 to pull my tractor out all the time. works fine. slow, smooth pull.
I'm thinking of trying a rope, I've broke 3 6" straps in 2 years
if you dont clean your straps when your done useing them they will rot from the inside out. the sand will cut the thread.
same with rope, you will need to clean them to or the same thing will happen.
i've had straps for 8 yrs and have had no trouble with them i wash them after every bog 6 x 30 and a 6 x 50. 50,000 lb
rope or strap, clean them after words they will last a long time.
Love my Rope!
i like them both i would use either or
sweet vid, who's chevy. sounds like a bad ass race motor.. id use ropes. as long as there big enough.
I have a 20' rope that I beleive was made by the guy in Frankenmuth. The rope is probably 8 years old now, and I'm constantly using it all the time and I stand behind it 100% I've even used it to yank a 4020 Jd out of the mud.. It took about 10 good yanks and the rope never gave out. It's also a lot easier on trucks then a chain or a strap that doesn't stretch!!!
Someone got the name/number for the guy in Frankenmuth? Thanks. a=f
==doh
broke a strap yesturday ==doh
I got my rope from Ken @ fbkoffroad.com no trouble yet, plus it floats :P

Yup I have a.so purchased two straps from him as well, the first was snapped by a dozer ran it over lol and the second is going strong still for about three years now. I think I will try a rope next.
I've had the same rope for twenty years and it been beat on used on are farm and bogging haven't snapped it yet getting another one made this year
ranger dave said some good wash the mud off them and hang my strap up to dry. also keep them out of the sun light and heat. I have some straps that are over 25years old. I don't use them for pulling out stuck trucks, but to flat tow somebody.
