Title: Is it just my house?
Post by: Disturban on June 13, 2009, 04:25:27 AM
Is it just my house or are the Mosquitoes really bad this year? I spray my whole yard with Triazicide every two weeks, keep anything that will hold water upside down, keep our yard cut short, citronella plants all over the place as well as candles burning in the evening and from my door to the car you better run because your ass will get bit about 100 times on the way!

I have used this system every year and never had them this bad...they are just vicious this year for some reason. I even have them flying around in my house. It does not help we live right by the river and have a pond right by us but usually the Triazicide will keep them at bay.

Yup, they are bad.  All the rain we had and mild temps that didnt allow it to try out fast... gunna be a bad skeeter season.

We have a pond and the woods in the back are very wet.  Any kind of spraying, plants, etc at my place would be a waste of money.

Ever hear of homemade traps? You take a 2 liter bottle cut it about 1/3 from the top, flip that upside down inside its self so it looks like a funnel going inside the bottle. Then you add brown sugar and yeast and wrap black paper around it. The brown sugar and yeast will give off carbon monoxide to attract the skeeters and they are also attracted to dark objects. They fly down into the hole and cant find their way back out and die.

I think I am going to make about 20 of these and place them at the edge of the woods all around my house and in the shrubs.

Yup, they are bad, I have woods behind my house, and my house is to the north of the woods.  (shady side)  I don't go out there without spray, and keep spray in my truck at all times.

Listerine and a spray bottle. Get the cheep off brand stuff works just the same. This really works well. Had a bond fire a few weeks back and even the fire wasnt keeping them away. Sprayed ourselfs and a 20 ft radious. No bites the rest of the night. Works wonders!
