Post by: ~SwampRAT~ on October 27, 2009, 11:29:15 PM
well ppl, whats the verdict? it was released 3 days ago, idk about you guys, but with me being a computer junkie, ive had it for.....lets just say awhile ;). what do you guys think about it? do you like it better than xp? as far as im concerned vista wasnt an operating system, it was a mistake, so im not including it.

I beta tested Windows 7, its a hell of alot better than Vista, I'd like it better if you didn't need an extra 1 gig of RAM and another 15 gigs of hard drive space for windows XP compatibility, might as well run a dual boot system, then you wouldn't "need" the extra RAM, not that more isn't bad :)

i understand that the extra 15gb and extra ram seems like a lot, but if you think about it, if you dual make a dual boot system, you would need ATLEAST a 15gb partition for the system, and in all honesty, the extra GB of RAM will make everything run smoother and it just isnt that expensive anymore anyways. i just built a new system and spent under $500 with an AMD quad core processor, 2.6GHZ, 4gb of DDR2 ram, and a 1TB hard drive. prices of pc components are very reasonable these days. the ram alone only cost me $40. granted i bought it on overstock auctions, but i see these deals everywhere.

HDD space ain't the problem with me, just the RAM, only one of my computers can take more than 1.5 gigs, but it needs a new CPU, it only has a 2.8gHz 400mHz FSB Celeron, and I think the highest speed RAM the motherboard can take is 533mHz, my other main computer has a 3.0gHz 533mHz FSB Pentium, but RAM is maxed out at 996mb to which when I'm using something that needs a lot of video RAM it drops to 768mb, damned shared RAM :P

sooner or later I'd like to build a new one, just haven't had the money...

if you are going to get a Dell, get an Optiplex, they are actually well made, and you can get a good used one for between $79-$200...

well i finally get to try it out. I like it, alot better than vista considering it basicly looks the same but for some reason is alot easier to use.. I was messing around with the thing where ya shake a open window and it minimizes the rest of them, or brings them back. & the draging a window to the top and it maximizes it. Got some playing around to do so far its pretty cool..  applaudd

the snipping tool is sweet too... ;D ==roll    now if i can just get rid of the dial-up...

Windows 7 is way better then Vista and Vista was way better then XP and XP was way better then 2000 ect ect ect ect ect  ==roll

IMO I will wait...I am still running XP for the simple fact that any new operating system will have bugs and be full of holes that every script kiddie and hacker will exploit. I never made the switch to Vista just because even after a year they still had a lot of issues with it...I can run anything I need to with XP and I do not have any issues!

I VERY STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THE FACT THAT THE NEXT IS ALWAYS BEST AND LATEST DOES NOT MAKE IT THE GREATEST ..... MILLENIUM = JUNK.....WINDOWS 98 WAS JUNK TILL SE CAME OUT... VISTA = JUNK  NOW THEY MAY HAVE SERVED SOMEONE WELL I'M NOT SAYING THEY DIDNT. THIS IS MY OPINION. WIN 95 WAS AWSOME FOR WHAT IT WAS AT THE TIME BUT THEN THEY RUSHED RIGHT OUT THERE WITH WINDOWS 98 AND IT FLOPPED. UNTIL THEY MADE MANY FIXES TO IT AND RENAMED IT 98SE WAS IT THEN CONSIDERED A ROBUST OPERATING SYSTEM. PERSONALLY I NEVER CARED FOR WINDOWS 2000 OR THE MILLENIUM EDITION AT ALL. WHEN WINDOWS XP CAME OUT IT WASENT THE BEST BUT WITH SEVERAL SERVICE PACKS IT HAS PROVEN TO BE AN AWSOME OPERATING SYSTEM BUT ONE BETTER IS WINDOWS XP 64 WHICH IN MY OPINION IS THE BEST TO DATE WHILE 7 DOES HOLD PROMISE I WILL HOLD OUT FOR IT TO BE MORE HARDY THAN IT CURRENTLY IS. OK RANT OVER  ;D

which anything out there even if its better OS for the most part is not compatible with a lot of programs cuz windows has had the market sewn up for a long time, but things are slowly changing. Thank god

ill agree, the day and hell, almost 3 days after windows 7 was released, there were bugs. there were sound problems and other things i dont need to mention. fourtnatly though, and this is coming from a guy that has been pro linux for years now, the programmers at microsoft got on the problems quick and within 4 days, all of the problems i was able to find with running basic programs, had been fixed. i dont know what happend, maybe MAC was hurting pc, but microsoft got off thier ass on this one. this is the most stable os ive used in a long time.

EDIT - most stable MICROSOFT os ive used in a long time :P

bad part about Macs now is you can get them with a Windows operating system, which now makes them as reliable as a PC...

the reason Windows sucks as far as reliability goes is because of its popularity, a hacker or virus coder is going to make a bigger mess attacking Windows than Max OS or Linux, its somewhere around 70% of all computers run Windows, as Mac OS and Linux gain in popularity they will start having the same problems as Windows, as soon as they are worth hacking and f%#@g with they will be...
