Title: dodge cummins buildup. on bags and boggers.
Post by: cumminsmatt98 on January 21, 2010, 05:46:18 PM
well, the build up of the diesel is going to start soon now, just got some dtt tranny parts in today so im starting with the trans, then the motor and suspension. going to need some parts so i thought id post up here to keep a current list of items needed and ideas where to get them.

its a 96 reg cab dodge cummins 4x4, goal by the summer will be dtt trans, 500 hp with a TRIPLE turbo setup for great street manners, 3" body lift, 3" suspension lift ( because this is going to be a plow truck) that will still be working. the pump will be a custom tuned 180 pump with 4k springs. and id like to run 33" swampers or nittos.

so, heres the parts im gonna need and where i think ill be getting em, but feel free to steer me in a better direction (cheaper is better lol)

2 stock dodge turbos
water meth kit ( net )
3" coil spacers ($75 on ebay)
3" blocks for the rear (free at home)
3" body lift  (free at home)
hiem joints for steering and track bar, and sway bar links ( mail order 3/4x3/4 )
tires and wheels, prob on here lol

the hardest part is going to be fabbing up the triples and keeping the 2nd battery for the auto to start. going with triples because of spool up and the "cool" factor, and way cheaper than a set of twins. going to keep em under 45psi until i can swing for some o-rings. should be starting the build up next week with the body lift and the trans valve body, got a custom tune dtt kit for it. then its getting a converter with taxes and thats when ill swing for some custom injectors and the turbos. ill keep pics up of the build up, but its gonna take a while. just lookin for a little input as i go and before i start.  what would any of you do different? its going to be a dune hopper/work truck so no 12" of lift and 1000hp. i just want a fun driving truck that wont be fogging out city blocks.

the only thing I would really do different is 3" lift coils instead of the spacers.  ( had bad luck with coil spacers in the past ) and if you are plowing you are going to want your suspension solid and reliable up front.  Otherwise sounds pretty cool!  I like budget builds.  ==2cents

yeah, im considering going with bags in the front instead of spacers if i can fund it. ill have a 9,2"boss poly with wings, well over 1000#'s on the front. and the bags would ride decent.

get a goerands tripple disk converter well worth the money and the one i got has a lifetime warrenty. i also got a hardened input shaft from them to. what are you going to use for your turbos 2 stock turbos over a larger one or what. im planning on twins hx35 over ht3b or hx60 or s400. something of that nature. should be fun i love these cummins
Title: Re: dodge cummins project, slow build up, but gonna be good.
Post by: cumminsmatt98 on January 22, 2010, 01:00:20 PM
im going with a dtt converter i think, thats where the rest of the trans stuff is coming from, gorend makes good stuff, just a little over priced. as for turbos, im using 3 stock turbo, 2 35-12's over the stock 35-12 for the triple setup. 2 hx35's will flow about the same as a ht3b, but will light about 800-1000 rpms earlier, thus the reason im going with them, and the tune ability plays a huge factor in it. instead of the one huge wheel in the 60 spinning im dividing it into two smaller more efficient turbos and all 3 are gated so tuning is easier. second reason is nobody has em, and ill have true dual exhaust on my straight 6 lol! im basically needing 1 more stocker and i can start mocking them up. i gave 3 away this year for free, and even got stiffed on $25 shipping to a guy that was in a bind that said he'd pay me back.

Post by: cumminsmatt98 on January 26, 2010, 05:13:29 PM
ok, ok, ok, heres what this whole thing is gonna look like when finished, not mine, but what im putting togather, just a little teaser for all of ya, still scrounging turbos up at this point.

still trying to get the cash around for the converter too, once thats done, then the power is coming!! got a welder to use, getting a portable bandsaw and then the fabbing starts.

and i think i got a hook up on bags, so i might ditch the body lift idea if that pulls through.

Title: Re: dodge cummins project, slow build up, but gonna be good.
Post by: cumminsmatt98 on January 27, 2010, 02:56:49 PM
a few turbos lol! those pics are actually on a 24v truck with just a box and some 90hp sticks.  spooling starts hard at 1400 and egt's avg about 600* wot loaded will hit 1100* your stock exh housings might be a tad too tight to really make big nimbers out of it, but it would spool faster than you could watch your boost gauge. the turbos im using are stockers with 12cm ex housings. the ones in the pics are hybrid 35/40's. i think 3 brand new turbos all hybrids would be in the area of $1,000. you could use your stock top charger but you might have to get a external gate. i say lets do it ==np  and hey, if you know anybody that has a junk stocker turbo layin around, let me know, id like to get a few trashed ones for mocking up.

twins are cool, dont get me wrong, but three is always better than 2 lol! yeah, im gonna keep the buildup updated on here, and feel free to take a look when its finished. the only thing holding me back is this damn money crap, cant seem to find enough of it... i think right after tax time the ball should pick up steam.

hey, we drink natty light, its cheap!! im going to try and build some piping and have kits around in a few weeks. i can get brand new emussa chargers for $300 ea, so for stockers i wouldnt give over $175 for em just for some fyi.

well, little forward motion in the buildup, going to get the converter today and the valve body and converter should be in tonight ++peace it will also be getting some more fuel as soon as thats all complete.

Post by: cumminsmatt98 on February 17, 2010, 01:38:21 PM
well, after a long fight with the trans last night, and a very messy one at that, the converter is in with the valve body. today the front driveshaft goes back in and the fuel gets poured to it. drives 1000% better now. going to try and build a better track bar today too. could use a set of coils to use for templates to make some spacers if anybody has a set laying around, id shell out some beer just to borrow them for a day or two.

this truck hauls the mail with the torque convertor, fuel plate  and dtt kit. Thats all hes done so far. This truck used to get beat by school busses. Now we can race etran (community shuttle) buses without a problem. lol.

Its fast for a pretty stock dizzle.

so i fiddled around with the governor and got the washers to work a little better, fuels to 28-2900 now, not quite as good as a true 3k kit, but for .75 cents its not bad, will be upgrading to some 6k rpm springs soon so get some better fueling and power curve. looking into either schieds 60# springs, or a set of custom hamiltons with ti keepers. hopefully fabbing a set of coil spacers till i can get the bags around to do it right.  this no money stuff blows!!

well, makin some headway finally, got the front body lift in today, much to my suprise, dodge uses different size bolts for the box and the cab. so i gotta get new bolts tomorrow. then im going to try and get a set of 3" spacers and blocks in it by tomorrow afternoon. and a fancy new custom bumper will be on the front of it next week too.  did some fueling mods to her along with the new tranny parts and its working great. should have her muddy this weekend. oh, thanks for the boggers again shawn!

yeah, thats one thing i cant come up with. a good name for the ol girl. i was thinking about blackout mudding but i just cant seem to come up with one that works, maybe ill put up a thread to find a name for it. id like to enter it into a few competitive boggs this year if all goes good. when this is done, it will turn day into night on a good run. gonna try and get it to about 5-5500 rpm's to help with wheel speed.

well, got some more done to it this week. put a set of bags up in the front, still making shock mounts and sway bar links, but it got it up about another 3", for a total of 6" under it now (blocked the back till i get the rear bag mounts made) took it back out muddin this weekend and it did great, got stuck once, then truned to being a recovery truck pulling everyone out. the bad is, hitting a rough hole the stock coil bucket on the top bent and now i have to figure out a way to straghten it. ill get pics of it up later. heres a few until then. rides excelent!!  first ones with just a 3" body lift, the rest are after the bags.
