Gotta start a thread for my new truck.
1991 GMC K1500 4x4
5.7L TBI V8 (rebuilt ~ 30,000 miles ago)
4L60 4 sp. Automatic (junk, putting in a take-out with 80,000 miles on it)
NP241C Transfer Case
Standard Cab
Long Box
P265/75R16 Firestone Wilderness AT's
Currently in the process of swapping the transmission and flex plate right now. Slow going out in the cold! loll
Future plans, replace front fenders, fix rust above wheel wells, 6 lug 14 bolt rear, 3/4 ton springs in the rear, 3" body lift, 285/75R16's, dual exhaust, etc.

No, I need to find one for this truck. Had one in my '93 Suburban and now I wouldn't have anything else in a half-ton that does any towing.
Got the tranny out today.

Found out my flywheel was for sure busted. Check out the videos.
Looks like hell. Explains the rattling when it was running.

Luckily I had a brand new one I pulled off a motor I bought years ago. Sure helps to keep spare parts around. Oh, and I got another one with the truck. Still have a spare! ++peace

Do you know what other trucks came with a 6 lug 14 bolt or anyother diffs that would be worthy and bolt right in.

As far as I know they only came in the light (6 lug) 3/4 ton trucks. 88-98'ish, I'm sure someone else can clarify the specifics.

I'm not sure. Haven't pulled the RPO codes yet to look them up.
Thanks

hd 88-98 1500's rpo code f44 and 88-98 light 3/4 ton's. 2wd 3/4 ton axle's are aprox 3" narower than 4x4 one's so if a 2wd one is to be used it need's 1.5" wheel spacer's
is it done yet??? lol I got the parts for the clutch! should have the old girl on the road soon! good luck with the smurf! hehehe
Nope, not yet. Had a setback today. What's the name of your tranny guy you were telling me about?
Well, opened up the "new" tranny to put a new filter in it and got quite a suprise. One giant chunk of ice. Now I'm at a crossroad. I can either put it in and hope it's good enough to get me through until summer or save up some coin and get one of them rebuilt. This one had some metal shavings in the bottom but it is a 80,000 mile tranny. ??? Oh the drama! loll

john try u-pullandsave there at schram and it is a bunch of c4c trucks there and i think like 175 for a trans and you can get a warranty
Decided since I've gotten all practiced up at pulling the tranny I'm gonna go ahead and put the "new" one in. Can't hurt. I'll only be out $20 in Wal-Mart tranny fluid anyway.
So until I get ambitious tomorrow to put it in, I'm gonna do some RPO code research.

Got a tranny Wednesday. Just gotta get a spare minute to put it in! Getting closer.
Got my "new" tranny in today. Still need to hook up the detent cable and get one new bolt for the rear U-joint strap. Tranny's been sitting for 8 years so I started her up and let it run to circulate the fluid back onto the clutches. More pictures, vids and updates tomorrow.
Denied! Tranny holds in first til it's wound out then slides into third. Guy gave me a gaurantee that it would work. I'll find out tomorrow whether or not he's gonna honor it or not. I did get a chance to drive the truck around though and find out what it has and needs. Really doesn't need anything other than the brakes bled. Drives nice and smooth, lots of power, all the lights work, etc. Still on the fence as to fix it & keep it or trade it off (fixed or not).
Dang that sucks about the tranny. Better luck with the next one.
trade it that's what i did with the stepside loll
bummer on the luck i guess some of my bad luck migrated your way
Take it back, TAKE IT BACK!!! loll
I found a guy who's got a rebuilt one he wants to trade me for my 3 bad ones so I'll probably end up just doing that. Assuming this tranny's legit and not some 300,000 mile S-10 take out with the wrong tailshaft bolt pattern or something crazy like that. Would be just my luck! loll
The tranny is in and it works great. I'm off to work now but I'll update with pics and more info when I get home!
sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!! burn out pics ?????? lol

Well got my tranny in. Rebuilt by Jeremy Sheperd of Affordable Honest Automotive out of Charlotte. He works at Shaheen Chevy in Lansing and runs a repair facility out of his garage. www.affordablehonestautomotive.com Nice guy and the tranny works great. I traded off to him my three junk trannies for this one he just rebuilt. Got it all in and it shifts great and I couldn't be happier with it.

Got the tranny all wrapped up and went to work on the brakes since they were nill and my fluid kept disappearing. Found out why...
(http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa128/TBigLug/Smurf/Tranny%20Updates/BrokenBrakeLine.jpg) (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa128/TBigLug/Smurf/Tranny%20Updates/BrokenBrakeLine.jpg)
Busted brake line. It's okay, it was in the rear. So I blocked off the line at the master cylinder by sticking a roofing nail in the line and retightening it (thanks Trent for asking the question "How do I block off my rear brakes?" Came in handy! loll) The DS bleeder broke free with a little bit of heat and a shot of penetrating oil. Bled out that side. Moved over to the PS and found this...
(http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa128/TBigLug/Smurf/Tranny%20Updates/BrokenBleeder.jpg) (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa128/TBigLug/Smurf/Tranny%20Updates/BrokenBleeder.jpg)
Broken bleeder. At least it doesn't leak and now I have really good brakes.
Next, I'm gonna work on the rear cab mounts to get the body lines back up, find some replacement tires and find a flywheel cover for the K-case.

It helps that I don't have to drive it everyday so I could just let it sit until I got the stuff to do it.
Next time you need a tranny hit one of the LKQ junk yards they are $89 and come with a warranty.
What's LKQ stand for?

Like Kind Quality. Good used car parts, http://www.lkqcorp.com/home/home.asp
when bleeding brakes i was always told to start with the furtherest 1 away from the master cyclinder. dosent mean u have to do them all though
how did you manage to crack the flywheel that bad? ive seen them cracked but never all the way around like that
Flywheel was courtesy of the previous owner both not installing the top bellhousing bolts, not tightening the ones that were installed, and continuing to drive it after it broke.
Got my new tires on this morning. Not much taller but plenty wide! loll Next week I'll pick up some paint and give 'em a gloss black color and keep my eyes open for a set of beauty rings and center caps.
