I am in the middle of creating a dual snorkel functional ram air system on the Suburban. Going to take the snorkel off filter #2 and mount it on filter #1 so it is a mirror image. Gutted the heat stove and butterfly valve on passenger side already and filled in with sheet metal. That thing was a huge restriction...so far the passenger side is done just need to mount snorkel on driver side and repeat process.
When other side is done out comes the chip so I can send it back to pcmforless and have them adjust the fuel curve a little richer. Mods on the small block so far are 454tbi, cam, 3" exhaust and chip. The reason for the ram air is for the new BBC when it is done, probably going to run carb on that.
Basically what I did was create this but when you pop the hood it is going to look factory and that will be a real cool factor. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-716/?rtype=10

swet ive seen it done a few times they look mean
applaudd ==kp great idea
Come a later date I want to install a snorkel and some kind if butterfly valves on the front of the ram air system that I can control via an electric motor...that way if I go off road I can close the ram air and use the snorkel and vice versa if I take a highway trip or towing ect ect. That would be a trick set up!!! Maybe use something like electric exhaust cut outs?
I thought you bought a Dodge and named it Ram Air . . .
Second snorkel has been welded on, going to do some touch up's with a little bondo tomorrow, sand it and paint it. All I need to do now is order the flex tube from the dealer Monday morning, takes about 3 days so this should be complete by Wed or Thur at latest.

This probably wont make a difference in my current motor 350, 670cfm tbi, 3" exhaust, mild cam and a chip. I thought this motor needed some more air and it did, at first I just gutted the heat stove/butterfly valve sealed the snorkel up on the bottom where that came out, then cut a hole in the fitting where my flex hose connects to create a ram air effect.
Just these mods made a huge difference and I don't think I will benefit any for adding the same setup on the drivers side but I do plan on dropping in a BB in the future and I am sure I will need the dual snorkel/ram air setup for that so I don't have any breathing issues.
As soon as the funds allow me I am going to get two electric exhaust cutouts to mount on the front two intakes, then I am going to get a snorkel off ebay for $350 and have a 3rd exhaust cut out mounted on the passenger fender plumbed into the snorkel but wired in reverse from the other two...flip the switch up for dual snorkel ram air and close off road snorkel, flip it down to close ram air and open up off road snorkel.
Think I might mount some screens over the front intake hoses so I don't suck up leaves, rocks, birds, dogs into my air filter ==roll
==cl Looks like a pretty trick setup.
That's really cool!
Looks factory...now it is time to go F**K with some Chevy guys and see if they ever seen this option before ==roll
Few more.
looking good ==cl
Now I just need a headlight bezel ==roll
that setup is close to what im gonna do for my truck!!! except im gonna buy the spectre kit
Nice Job! I always try to fabricate something before just buying it. Good to see a nice fab job that looks so factory. 8)
More air in=more gas to match the fuel ratio though. I run an old single inlet 1977 air cleaner on my '77, that and a fan clutched bumped it up a couple mpg's.
I should of had you weld the spacer on my air cleaner; Lincoln arc welder was a pain in the a$$ ==roll

I used an arc welder on this...just got to take your time and turn your amperage way down.
Nice job! applaudd
looks great curiousto see th snorkel set up and the electric cut outs that will be pretty kool
turned out pretty nice
nice applaudd
==cl looks good! i'd change out that damn plastic tubing for somethin a lil better. that stuff is MASSIVE restrictive... add some little scoups on the intake behind the grille... you'll be ballin loll

I dont think they are as restrictive as you think, hell I can fit my whole arm in one ==roll
I am calling this done until I get money for my snorkel and exhaust cut outs. The main reason I did it was to feed my motor plenty of fresh air this summer because we will be towing a 30' travel trailer a lot so I figure lots of fresh cool outside air will help keep motor temps down along with the 160 degree thermostat and heavy duty aluminum radiator I just put in.
well seeing as you have two, i dont think its that bad at all... its the corrigated part that is the restrictive part. just my few pennies as to something to upgrade in the future ==np

The whole setup is going to cost me about $850 brand new, I am going to shop around and see if I can find some used parts first.
i have electric cut outs....they are the p00!!!!!! Mine come with a 5 year warrenty too!
looks good man, just wondering if there's any issues with water at all??
==awesome i totally need that set up for my 2.5L ==roll jkk
Looks good !! Nice job ==thumbsup
