My new project is a 1978 F-150 the engine is a 400m, C-6 tranny with a B&M shift kit, 205 t-case and sitting on 1/2 ton axels with a 6 inch suspension lift. My plans this summer is to rebuild the engine or I have been considering On getting a 390 for it and rebuilding that. I looking at getting a set of 3/4 or 1 ton axels but still not sure yet. Any advice from ford guys is welcome.

if you change from the 400 or 351M ( there differnt ) the trany wont work with the 390 (FE ) block.
351C, 351M, 400, 429, 460 your trany will work with any one of these.
Thanks ranger dave if i went to the 390 what tranny do i need
don't know i stay away from the FE blocks
