well, i traded my stepside for this truck and now i think i should probly rebuild the motor because after 70 mile's of driveing it my oil smell's like a gas tank (and i changed it when i got it). so i guess that make's this a new project. i cant be to mad, i traded a truck with a bad tran's for it
94 k1500 ext cab short box, it got the usual 350/4l60e/241 combo with 373 gear's. it's also got 17" micky thompson classic lock's with 285-70-17 bfg at's. i turned up the t.b's a little to fix the monster rake it had to the front. that's about it nothing to fancy. dont think im going to lift this one just fix the motor and drive.

out of the 6 88-98's ive had only two have had the 373's and all but this one and the stepside have had factory hitches
==cl Lookin' good! You need to just break down and get a 2500! Enough of the half tons, they don't hold up anyway! loll

3.73s were NOT with towing packages. One of my 1995 has towing package on it with 3.42 gears.
camo does that have a 14 bolt rear? If you you heavy-duty chassis truck.

The 3.73 came on every truck that was built with a 3.73. That's it. it wasn't an option tied to a hitch or 4x4 or anything like that. it was probably seen most common with a factory hitch, or with other options common with heavier trailering equipment, but it wasn't necessarily installed on all of them. most likely 3.42 was the most common gearing because it allows a little tow power and a little bit of fuel economy.

im likeing it so for. only thing ive had problem's with is reverse is finicky and she puff's some smoke on startup but nothing i cant live with
also got 250ish mile's on it now in the 4 day's ive had her and averaging 11.503 mpg out of her
maybe linkage problem with the reverse?? and probably full tune up will help the mileage

no i think it's a problem with the engagement but it still work's so im not going to worry about it right now
and since i started a new job last week, im throwing around the idea of a 6" rough country lift and some 33's
also got a sticker for it from B.D. at the 52 bog in perry last weekend. thank's B.D.
y do 33s when u can fit 35s? 6 inches will easily clear em!
I drive 120+ mile's a day for work now and 35's suck with out regearing. plus im going to try and keep this out of the mud for the most part

Damn you must make some good money! I can't afford my 100 mile/day trip with mine right now.
Working at linn products in charlotte now And its deffenately at the cut off for driveing any farther
regearing is a small price to pay for the gas mileage ud save...
I allready have the 373's and id only get the 6" because its like 20$ more than the roughcountry 4" plus 35's for 17's are stupid expensive. ive had many lifted truck's and it's nice to have one with road maner's loll

With stock Z-71 tires, the 3.73 gets 1 mpg less than the same Z-71 with 3.42s.
It is not as big a difference as you think.
Plus, too much gear and the engine is running too high on the highway sucking gas also. 4.10s with 33s and no overdrive sucks.

yes but 342's, 33's and vortec = awsome i got 17 mpg out of my 97 when i had it(on uncorrected odd so i actually got better due to it reading less mile's than i actually drove)
and kyle, the stock tire is a 31" and my 285/70's are about 33x9.5 and it cruises great so im thinking a nice 305/70 will suffice and look better and will not need to be geared. there will just be a little more drag from the incrased ride height and wider tire's so im figureing about 10 mpg maybe more once my friend dose up a new tran's for me (he's a tran's tech at andrew's in mason)
so, the tran's took a crap on me completetly 2 week's ago
but the good new's is i'm trafeing my jimmy for the tran's to get done by a person right down the rd from me. he's done a few of my tran's befor and dont have any complaint's ;D
hopefully lift will come eventually once i get the drive line all buttoned up
loll You can't win for losing bub'! Hopefully once you get the new tranny in you'll be good to go. ==djdj
