i was just wondering how hard it is to do a sas on these trucks and if anyone has any tips. i have a full service shop at my disposal to do this. this truck will be driven on the street as well as playin in the mud. any insight will be greatly appricated

kits are over rated! i've done 5 or 6, theyre not that hard at all.. pretty easy stuff really. just make sure its all square when ya weld it up!
Use a ford axle so u dont have to mess with you t-case. OFD will get you everything you need at a resonable price. The kit gives you 3" so figure that in with your total lift hight.
A kit will take all the guess work out of your project. If your a good fabricator you can make your kit yourself but dont let anyone tell you its easy. You can spend alot of money if you dont know what your doing. Call Wild Time Fabrication and talk to someone who does this everyday. What ever you do take your time and do your home work.
ya pitbull35 is right. iv done one and the kit is the way to go... and just saying if ur going to go with the sas maybe think about 4 link its not to much more and if ur going to do it do it right the first time.
whats gonna be the benefits of doin the 4 link i havent done much fab work except bumpers and traction bars and roll cages
just its not to much more to do and y u have it apart... if ur going to do it once butter do it right the first time. and its better for the mud u get a better ride. thats just what i think.

i made my own kit for my truck. took me like 3 months worth of weekends to fab up all the peices. granted they werent solid working weekends but alot of hw and measureing was done. i built all mine OUTSIDE of the truck and was still driving it everyday when i was building it. every bracket was homemade and of my own design. this is my link for what i did: http://wegotmud.com/forum/index.php?topic=51147.0
for sheer simplicity i would buy a regular kit(i prefer the ord kit its all bolt on and some of the welding angles the sky kit requires are a pain to do). 4 link aint really necessary. there are plenty of trucks rollig around in the offroad world still using good ol leaf springs. and a leaf kit requires a helluva lot less work and are less likely to bend and break.
go with a d44 from a ford truck or early bronco. if its a half ton axle, u just have to get a set of chevy 6 lug hubs and swap em out. the ord crossover steering would be a really good idea to have. i had built my own crossover bar... just took some time
I agree but i kinda wish i would have gone with the linked kit. Either way SAS is the only way to lift a truck. I've had 2 trucks with independant lifts and they both wore front end parts real fast and i was always affraid of bending the kit. I have the Off Road Dirrect kit and it works great and they are very very cool to deal with. My shock hoops broke and they not only shipped me new ones with no questions asked the beefed them up and made me single shock hoops instead of the dual i originally bought from them. I've had my truck up to 100-120 mph (speedo was pegged) and it handles great. I just wish i would have used a D44 instead of my 10 bolt.

have ya decided on what ur doin axles wise?
stay away from the sky kit as its junk thin cheap metal. i destroyed mine at the first bog in one tow. use ford axles aka dana 60 and 10.25!
ya im lookin for some with the driver side pumpkin i need old style ford axles with the 8-6.5 bolt pattern i got a set of rims and tires ready to go what should i use for springs half ton or bump up to 3/4 or 1 ton springs
just make sure everything is square.

well for thr front there is no such thing as "3/4 ton" leafs. as for the back half tons are fine. bigger leafs are only if ur gonna haul things and with a lifted truck i highly doubt it. and 1/2 tons will give u a lil better flex and a lil smoother ride

what size tires u going to run on it?
stock 1/2 ton springs in the front off an 73-87 truck will usually give you about 6" of lift with the sas kit. i used 4" blocks in the rear with 3/4 ton springs and it sat a little lower than the front.
