like you mean weld them together?in the middle?
Title: Re: ChevroletJ5
Post by: Flat_Black on July 29, 2010, 03:36:21 AM
weld a wedge in the middle or drill a hole in both sides and use a grade 8 bolt and a piece of round stock as a shime to prevent the shackle from folding up and causing you to crash.  im just tryin to help out not being rude or anything im just give ya some advice

was it really hard to put chevy drivetrain in?? about how long is ur rear dshaft?
Title: Re: ChevroletJ5 cj5 on 44;sss
Post by: chevroletj5 on April 14, 2011, 11:54:04 PM
the chevy swap was easy...i couldnt use a slip yoke 208 like i wanted.was to long of a set up . so i had to go with a np205 bolt on.also the 14bolt has a shorter pinion then any other ff axle.i moved my engine ahead about 4 inches..plenty of room since its was designed for a ong straight 6.also delted the fan and used electric ones that only stick out about 1.5 inches from the radiator..my water pump pulls only about 3 inches from my radiator..i used a 2core ugrade for the 304s in myn.the lower radiator hose is on the opposit side of chevy so it dumps down off the water pump.down under harmonic balencer and p to the lower radiator tube.the transmision i just fabed a mount from a random mount i had.the front drivetrains good with no binding with stock perches.my rears gonna be very short.im building it this weeknd.i can get demesions then.the dff is at a upward angle..it may burn up bearngs but shouldnt be to bad..i am going to have to go with 1410 yokes and ujoints to allow for more driveshaft angle.as far as mounting the suspsnion goes.the front end is a corp 10 bolt.pin hole to pin hole is 31.5 inches aprt and its got a lil room for error .one of the pin hoels is kind of oblonged.i put chevy springs in the front of myn 4'' soft rides.....i kept my shackels up front so it does turn the pinion up a tiny bit to help withthe driveline angles.so i used the factor shackel hanger and bushing off the jeep and welded it to a stell 2x4 thats welded and reinforced with angle iron to the front of the frame..im also going ot weld a 2 inch tube on this bar for pull out.in the rear solid mounts of the FRONT end i just welded a chuck of steel 2x4 to the bottom of the frame and reinforced it with 45degree gussets that go up to the top of the frame.its not pretty cause it was all out of stuff i had around but woulnt be hard to make more cosmeticly nice.in the rear i got the 10.5 14bolt ff from a 8o's 3/4ton k2500 suburban with 4.10s..ive seen guys just sread the spings out and put them on the factory perches..but i found out on myn it works best to get new perches and they fit perfect inbetween the factory perches.all i have for lift in the rear is add aleaf.turn over.2'' block and lift shackels..frotns chevy 4'' soft rides with lift shackels....i can take better pics of the mounts and stuff and maybe some demensions if your looking at doing a simular build..if i had one thing i would do dirreretn its crossover sterring..i got the old style and it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!bump steer really bad.and as far as transmisonion and tcase go..i just threw a b&m ratchet shift in it..and the tcase just took a sawzaw and cut a hole for it to move in and hopefully can just throw a rubber or leather boot over it so it looks better...also the whole trucks wired turn key..only thing on a switch is the elctric fans.i also recromend anyone get the one peice dlip front end like i got it makes it so easy to work on..and also.since i moved my engine up so far i dont even have to get undeer it to get to trans bolts to pull the engine..can swap a engine in about 45 minutes pretty easy!!!!!!!!!!
