started gathering parts for a build. it will be a bowtie block bored 4.125 with a four inch stroke. all forged components with about 12 to 1 compression gonna use my bowtie heads and intake, the heads are angle plug and been cutto about 60 cc chambers and 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust. gonna order a 4-7 swap roller cam with 630 lift and 276 duration on the int and 284 on the exh. at .050 and on a 107 center line. all this should produce big block numbers at a small block weight and money. i think it will turn 44 cut boggers and 1 tons just fine in my s10. truck is all s10 except running gear even using the s 10 frame after boxing and reinforcing. what everyone think about the combo and any ideas about carb cfm. hoping this will rip will try to get pics up soon but this will take some time due to a new house and shop equipment
i'd say probly a 800 cfm edelbrock, or a holley 750 double pump depending on how much fuel you wana use and how fast lol, sounds like a killer combo
850 holley man sec. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quadra jet!!!!!!
i got that same cam in a 388 stroker sbc with the same compression too and i run a 830 professionally tweaked and im thinking about tring a bigger carb motor seems like it has more to give
850 Holley double pumper dual feed.
it depends on how well your heads flow run a 1050 on the last 434 that we built

the 4/7 swap cams are junk IMO
Ya and what's his opinion based on, extensive dyno time, the hundredss of motors he builds a year or just general bs...
sounds wicked applaudd
Quotethe 4/7 swap cams are junk IMO
I am assuming u run a circle track car and if u don't like them 4/7 swap cams u are just like the rest f my roundy round buddies.. they tell me they don't like the swap cause it smoothes the tourque curve out. They want a broader tourque curve to get their cars moving out of the corner quicker. I don't know if its true but that is why they tell me they don't like them
why not try a boat cam? vary strong tq curve?.........................My buddy used the 630 setup and tunnel rams with 2 500s and a 400 shot in a 1966 nova (off the transbrake it twisted the frame) Make sure you port the hell out of them, but i dont think there guna flow you want a head that will put out over 200 becouse you have lots of cubes and big pistons dart 215s would work!
your setup sounds real close to mine but a few differences,
mine is 4.030 bore, 3.75 stroke (383), 2.02/1.60 aluminum heads with 200cc intake runners, 256/260 duration (If I remember right) .640 lift, solid roller, torker II intake, 64cc chambers, 12.5:1.
Now I'm running an 850 demon manual secondary double pumper and the motor loves it I just ran a set of cut 44 hawgs with 456 gears, 350/205 without any power issues by the way I weigh 4300# I will be converting to methonal for next season.
Thats 3 votes for an 850 ;D
i'd run a 870 holley
1050 dominator

i think that would be a touch on the large side. google it there is a formula to find the right size carb
a nice all moded 750 proform holly with 850 center sounds good, itll rev fast!
Cubic inch x max rpm divided by 3456 gives u the carb size.
So for example 383ci x 7000rpm divided by 3456 gives u a 775 cfm carb. So knowing that your suppose to step up to the next carb. Which would be a 830 0r 850
i got a book on the big small blocks.they run 9.1:1 compression,a 0.525 lift cam,1.5:1 rockers,220 cc heads with big valveswith an 870 modified holley and 1 3/4 headers getin 610 hp @6400 and 584 fpt @4500 rpm on a 4.250 x4.00 block. That motor you're buildin will make the truck wicked. can't wait to see it
holley's website also has a carb thing on it to help pick the exact carb for your use, you just pick the options it gives you put it your info and it'll give you a list of recomended carbs for what your going to use it on, but a smaller carb on a motor will give you a sharper throttle response verses a larger carb on the same motor, the bigger one will give more top end than the smaller one will, but the smaller will react faster on a given engine size.

Whats the name of that book? 610 horsepower with only 9 to 1 compression ratio doesnt quite sound right to me.
==cl just skidway it.. run a quadrajet with the secondarys wired open at all times ;D jkk
thanks for all the carb tech leaning toward the 850. according to my machine shop my heads will flow enough for the big cam and should be around 13 to 1 he seems to think we will be in the 750 range for horse power with all the tricks we have in store. as for the 4-7 swap cam this takes alot of strain off rods and crank. this project taking a little longer than expected due to blazer blew a trans line and caught fire but is coming along just slow. takes time to get all the clearancing perfect but this thing will be well worth the wait.
and we now have a name for the truck southern discomfort
that book is how to build big-inch chevy small blocks in the back they have power pakage sheets for 406 with 427 hp,383 with 474 hp,415 with 482 hp,383 with 530 hp another 406with 581 hp and that 454 with 610 hpthis book gives all the specs on every motor from heads to oil pump.i was goin to buld on but i come across a new 454 big block rebuilt for a good price to i went that route.

I vote for this!
sounds like a ripper! keeep us posted as to how it runs.
