anyone using a 12volt pump without killing the battery?
I was wondering the same thing too.....i dont want to worry about running power steering pump on my project!
ours has a 100amp alt and still wont keep up
might have to get a 150-200 amp alt to keep up......please keep me posted on what you find out!
we ran 2 batterys 1 hooked to alt for motor and 1 just for steering . it would go 6 or 8 passes and be pretty much dead after that. truck still runs but no sterring i am wondering if going to bigger alt or something else. I dont know if anyone has run an alt that big and made it work. still new at this so i will try to get back
I bet you could get a alt relocator brakets and mount 2 alts...that would def take of the problem i would think....what size wire do you have going from the alt to the batterys?
I AM NOT SURE WHAT SIZE IT IS . IT IS BRAIDED WIRE NOT SOLID . I TOOK A SET OF JUMPER CABLES THAT HAD A BAD END ON THEM, CUT THE ENDS OFF AND USED THAT . BATTERY IS IN THE TRUCK BED SO THE LENTH WORKED GOOD .
you need 200 amp alt and 3 group31 batts and it will not kill the batts mine worked great truning 62s
why are you against using a power steering pump?? just wondering cause i am putting hydro steering on my truck and was wondering what is the difference
Just curious why are you guys not running the pump on the motor
Most of the time when you turn 6500 to 7000 rpms the power steering belts like to come off...MY BBC rev limit is going to 7500rpms.......dont want to mess with the belt every pass or two. That is my reason.

What is a the difference between group31 and a normal battery?
Ya I got ya. You run serp or v belt
gotta be a v belt
On my last rig i had cross over steering, didnt run any belts...well i ran an alt belt but i was on a relocator bracket, so it stayed on. Other than that on my other rigs was v belts and yes they didnt like the high rpms.
hey homewrecker go get some serpentine brackets off a tbi moter and i promise you they will stay on at any rpm
thats what i run a serp set up off a 90 chevy truck and it does 7000 with no problems yet. when i get rich id like to run a march pully set up.
We run alk pump on the front of our bbc, with 1 belt pully behind it . if we go back to sterring pump , we have to move everything. i like the 200 amp with group 31 battery.does anyone out there do this and make it work all day with 1 battery?
This is a good topic I would like to Bump it and see what everyone is doing for there steering set-ups
i run serp belts on mine with power steering and i like to keep my foot to the mettle never had any belts come of on me yet
I use a stock gm pump, no cooler, v belts, 7500 -7800rpms hitting the limiter or 7000 making a run have not had a steering belt go off yet. pump was mounted with homemade stuff and fabed stock parts..... my alt belt has come off a few times but its not the best bracket lol
