More than likely they welded the carrier to the spiders so swap it out for a full spool if you have the funds for it.  or at least get another carrier and put the mini spool in it.  Full spool is by far the strongest.  Don't run it broke, thats just asking to tear something up.

the questions nobody has asked are: What exactly broke? How was it welded? and Have you even priced a spool? they are not much more than a mini spool.

if he says the welds broke i assume he means it's no longer a posi, better take the cover off and see what ya got. welding takes a little strength from hardened parts, you might be missing a spider gear...or worse.  hopefully you didnt buy a broken rear-end, and if its welded already forget about a mini-spool. welded is permanent

I dunno how to set up ring and pinion

setting up the ring and pinion is EXTREMELY simple in the 14bolt!   Last one i did i got it within  .005" without gear paint or a dial indicator    Finally GM did something right in a rear end, maybe thats why they still use them today and for the last like 40 yrs!

Can't be extremly simple if u never done it before, I've never even pulled a carrier before lol.  Do u gotta pull the shafts out a bit to get it out?

After lookin at some pics on that pirate 4x4 link, I'm wondering if I was sold a drw axle.  How long should the hub part be that sticks out?  I mean the part with the 8 bolts u take out to get out shaft.  How long should they stick out past where rim would rest against lug nuts on a SRW?

i know theres a bout a 3 inch differance in hub lenght between a 73 3/4 ton ff14 bolt and the 79 1 ton dually ff 14 bolt i just picked up.. i also found the 1 ton spring perches are closer togather.. not sure if that helps ya.. just what ive seen..

if your shims are ok then you will be ok, REMEMBER ANYTHING you take out you have to put back. The housing has been shimed, so keep everything in order and pull the guts make sure you keep everything in the same spots do not mix up the shims. Old timers did it this way, what do you do about the pinion feal it (tighten it feal it and adjust) My dad still rebuilds rearends this way and this is how he told me to do it! and his dad and his dad so IKNOW IT WORKS! NO BS
