i have this dana 44 for my sas but im trying to figure the year out.
was told i was either a 76 or 77.
my tech teacher said its off of a heavy duty pickup because of the hub size.
just trying to find out so i can figure out what parts i would need.
its also a low pinion if that matters.
theres a pic of the hub just seems alot bigger then normal.
Pop the diff cover, if its original the ring gear will have a date on it.. Ive got a large hug 44 like that, it came from a 73 3/4 chevy pick-up.
GotMud?
ok will do didnt know that they hade a date on them
there should be a bom # on it that will help you to. Here is a web page with a lot of id help http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44_3.htm (http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44_3.htm) look about 1/3 of the way down and you should see your axle
I would say that its that is a '76-'77 ford f250 axle if its a driver side drop do to the disk brakes and low pinion
on the alxe tube there is some numbers you can look up i found out mine is a 79 dana 44 but its a hp
You've got a HD44 (Heavy duty Dana 44) that Ford used in 77-back 3/4 tons.
As mentioned the edge of the ring gear will show you the Month and Year it was made............it will show numbers only such as ( 10 7 77) month...date...year.
Somthing to keep in mind just in case, is that if the axle has ever had an after market ring gear installed that it probably wont have a manufacturing date on it.
yup 44 hd, little harder to get parts for, the case is thicker, with the same outside dimensions as a standard 44, making the shafts longer and carrier narrower. Randy told me that. (from randy's ring and pinion)
figured out it was a 77 thanks for the info guys. but now i think i need a new ring and pinion. the one in there was all torn up it had chipped teeth
