anyone know anything about how to get rid of them .......ok my GF just moved into an old farm house they were all over. she let off bombs last friday swep up all the dead bodys ......ok heres the crazy thing every morn she gets up theres more dead bodys and some live ones, so she sweeps them up just to have it happen over, n over. like groundhog day.....not sure if the bomb will still be killing them after almost a week ...what do you think .anyone else have'n this proublem any help would be nice ..woody
Best way is get rid of any female Box Elder trees. Set up sticky traps in place you think they might be coming in to narrow down the source of them. Fill in cracks with caulk or spray foam. This spring will be worse if you can't stop them now. In the spring make sure the foundation is clear of leaves. Goodluck they are a pain.
We had them bad at our old house, need to treat all the trees and bushes in the yard and then do the house. The only thing I found that worked good was diazinon but you cant get it anymore. I sprayed my trees, yard and bushes, foundation and even my roof with about $500 worth of diazinon over that summer as well as bombed my house at least once every other week.
I think this was in 2003 or 2004....box elders have a 7 to 10 year population explosion and that was the year for them, myself and a lot of other people was battling them that year.
If she has them in the house right now wait until the summer/fall ==roll
PS: We had a few Box Elder trees in our yard about 20 feet from the house the the branches would over hang the roof, that is the main reason I think we had them so bad...if she has any Box Elder trees in the yard cut them dam things down and burn them as well as grind the stump up!
i take a garden sprayer and half a bottle of dawn dish soap and water seems to suffocate them and its non toxic

gettin rid of the trees wont make them go away wish it was that simple, my neighbor said they had and extreminator come out last spring and sprayed for them he said it took care of them for the whole year so maybe look into that but it might get expensive
I had a MAJOR infestation, looked like the movie "The Mummy" comin out the side of the house. Went to the hardware and bought ortho spray specifically for box elders and sprayed all I could see then set off 12 Raid Max foggers in basement and every room of the house and have not seen a live one since. Its been a couple weeks now. They are hard to kill, but Raid Max works! ;D
it works for a couple uses then they become like immune to it scotts made some boxelder killer but it doesnt seem to work anymore

Oh it is that simple...they lay their eggs in the trees. If you dont get rid of the trees then plan on future infestations.
dish soap and water in a spray bottle around where you think there coming in, my neighbor did it and had like half the bugs in the house as before.. or get a good cat that likes bugs.
so in other words get used to them
You will never get rid of them perm. we spray and had professionals come out and do stuff, and they where back withen a month.
takes alot of them to make a sandwich ==ha ==jk
i used this stuff called home defence it worked for about 6 months sprayed around the house and windows got it at walmart

when i bought my house we cut down every boxelder tree in our 5 acre property and we still have them everywhere
Yep, we have them too... yet no trees.. I believe these are also called "stink bugs" ???
or they're from the same family.. not sure, but the "stink bugs" leave a scent.. and wherever
they leave that scent they will return to next year (read repeatedly).
apparantly they are cyclical.. every 10 yrs or so.. and I read something about they're
predators being eradicated or non existant here in Mi. hence the infestations.
We dont have a single tree around my house. They Hide in the siding and come out when it sunny and warm. Just like yesterday. Killed a bunch of them. I just hit them with brake cleaner and a blow torch HAHA.
We spray around the doors and windows and all the spots around the house they tend to hide. Still does not do much. They are a true pest as they are everywhere and dont go away.
