A 496 stroker with 100 over dome pistons....... Or
A 502 with 100 over dome pistons
???
i vote 496
i say a 502. good block, then later if ya wanna increase the stroke ya can to 540 or 572+.
496, is 454 only .060 over and 1/4 inch stroke i believe... so it would be bigger than a 496, but the walls on the 454 block would be thin...
do you owen one of those motors or do you have to buy every thing? and do you have the $$$$ to build big strocker motor? but most of your power is made with top end parts. you buy good bottom end part so holds together!!

Yes i have both... I have both blocks sitting here and both cranks... Only thing i dont have is heads for the 502... And yes 496 is a 454 bored 60 over with a 4.250 crank.... But i am boring 100 over
A 454 with a .100 bore & a 4.1/4 would be a 505ci or a 502 with a .100 & a 4.1/4 would be a 555ci are thay both one peace rear mains or just the 502 ? if thay are both 1 peace I would go with the 502 block & make the 555s. or if you go .125 over on the 496 set up it would be a 511ci. if the 496s is a 2 peace rear main ?

I myself have never done this, at all, I have seen guys do .100 over, .125 just herd of it never seen it !! You can bore a ford out a lot ! Because thay were made to be rebult !! over & over.
I know someone that has a 125 over 454 runs good but is never able to be rebuilt... My block is already 60 over with a bur in it so were going to punch it to 80 or 100 over... Will be fine... But after now finding a set of 502 heads i think thats what i am building.... And yes for comp mainly but will hit local mud holes when i can
