Title: project cummins build "2" bigger and better.
Post by: cumminsmatt98 on February 27, 2011, 05:08:31 AM
well its time to start building the new cummins i just bought, kinda going in the same direction as the last one, just a little better in every way. this time im starting out with a bone stock 98.5 24v ext cab short box. as idt sits now it has 33x12.50-16.5 pro comp mud ta's. probably going to be a pretty slow build with the new baby and all, but i promise it will be much more impressive than the last one.

by spring id like to have a long arm lift, 3" body lift, some more power, more power, more power, a good tranny, more power, and tires and wheels in the 38" range. boggers perfered.

be looking for a nos kit, injector tips, tires and wheels, and other odds and ends for it if anybody has anything they wanna sell or trade.

and of course a pic as a starter.

just for the heck of it i put in a pic of the last cummins project.

Sweet project!  That was a decent deal on that truck, I thought hard about it myself.  Good luck with it.  Should be cool.

brandon, congrats on the kid, but im using bags for this project.

bad_f150, not to be rude, but how many 53 blocks have you ever seen crack? im thinking that ill be alright with what im running here.

thanks zach, but your dads not budging on a thing i say about em lol.

so i had a setback as the rear band broke in the trans and now im having to cover that instead of the injectors i was looking at.

on a plus side i finally found out my charger setup im going with, if it all works out it should be pretty cool (and sound like a f-16 fighter)

this is starting out way slower than i had planned on. seems theres way to many things happening at once.

I've always said that magazines and know-it-alls are what gave the 53 block a bad name. The block cracking has the same odds as anything else breaking on any truck. Is that area of the water jacket thinner, yes. My main concern on a VP pumped truck is the lift pump, I belive a fuel pressure guage is just as important as a boost and pyro.

Should be a lot of fun when your done, next couple years I'll be p-pumping a 24v, and it'll probably end up a 53 block  loll

Totally agree raymo! To be honest, i havent even checked my block, but with close to 400k, im not worried lol! Ive considered a p pump but for the 700hp mark im looking to hit a vp is more than good, especially with the new 4k quad tunes out there. My biggest issue is balancing power wth smooth high rpm.

im ordering tranny parts this week. Then some lift, then power, then more lift ad so on.

I would also love to hear some ideas on how you guys would build the truck, so lets hear some input!!

Oh, and by 4th of july, it should have dual hoodstcks if that sheds light on anything, and its not twin turbos going in it either, or some cobbled split y pipe.

gonna throw a set of tripple turbos on it huh. what turbos are you going to use 3 stock ones?
Title: Re: project cummins build "2" bigger and better.
Post by: cumminsmatt98 on March 21, 2011, 07:00:54 AM
stock off something lol! im going with triple 351 vgt's. all sorts of goodies on em. controlling drive pressure is going to be the only hurdle, which is easily taken care of. oh, and controlling 3vgt chargers, thats the pain in the a$$ haha! when its all done, it should spool extremely fast and flow enough to support any hp level my so vp pump can push out of it.  for ease, im considering running 2 vgt's and a 35. if i ever get my dang tranny done then i can start on some power ==censor

well its def taking longer than i had hoped but im starting to make time and scrounge parts for this thing again finally.

got the 3" body lift on it, total pita, i hate rust with a passion!  got a new high pressure lift pump to prolong the life of the ill fated vp. hopefully my favroite person in the world, the ups guy ;D ordered a quadzilla adrenaline for it, with a pulse moniter. this is the baddest chip on the market for the vp trucks and hopefully it works as good as they claim. has the capabilities to spin the motor upwards of 4000+ rpm's, you can make your own custom tunes, and i can get a iquad for it so i can use a ipad as my gague cluster.

ive got a few leads on some more turbos for the thing too. hopefully if overtime keeps paying at work this will be ready to tear some stuff up soon.

also finally got the materials to put the bags under it if it ever stops snowing and raining.

what are you using for a lift pump?

Right now I'm running a holly blue with great results. I have a set of 150hp injectors and a twin turbo laying on the floor, but I'm scared for the trans to put em in. The quad box is extremely fast, but not so much fo the daily driver/hauler imho.if I can ever get some time around, I really wanna get the trans done so I can put the rest of the go fast parts on it.

As for the block issue, mines a non 53 block so there's no worries, but truth be told, id build one of those too. I'm now in search of tires for the thing, the 33's arnt guna cut it, looking for 35-40 swampers.

This is taking waaayyy longer than expected, between spending all my money on baby, and working the hours to make it, its a never ending cycle.

Oh, and the blower motor is going out so the ac isn't great, that's first on the list lmao
