Are you talkin about a tall deck 427? Tough as nails. Probably got a steel crank. Beefy all the way around. WILL NOT FIT in most pickups due to the height in the rear, it hits the firewall. You can make it fit, just beat on it, lol...  Has a way different shaft in the distributor - gotta be careful on that part and make sure you got the right stuff. They used to come with points and condenser and I took the shaft out of that and put in an HEI. My personal favorite for big blocks. Thats an OLD SCHOOL motor, lol  ;D

well all the farmers around here run em they are good engines  if ya dont go over 4500 rpms thats when they start detonation  but most have steel cranks and 4 bolt mains  keep the rrrrrrrrrrsss down and ya be ok the 427 are tall decks so to run a  aftermarket alluminum or a stock bb intake ya gotta use spacers   or put a sh#@%#$^# load of money  in it and they turn em into a 632 ci  or some where around there

If its a tall deck I got one in my truck now.  Torque for days but no high RPMs.  Got with a lower gear the torque will twist whatever tire you run.

It will be just fine.  Like I said before, if you don't want it let me know and we'll figure out something on it.

Mine was a factory rebuilt +.060 motor.  I changed the carb and put on a full Mallory ignition system, with some custom headers I built, and it twists axle shafts like its going out of style.

theres tall deck motors are awsome, have a p00 ton  of torque i had a 366 tall deck in my 75 k20 running a 4sp and 38's could pull anything i hooked to the truck, and the pistons are 4 ring , has 2 compression so you can run nos on them stock.  and leave the stock heads they let them run just fine. i loved mine but they dont like rpm's and i do lol

ok im going to leave the heads on it and put a cam in and lifters and roller rockers carb intake and run it can i just use a tall deck distributor or do i have change the oil pump

No, youll have to either buy a dizzy for it or use the shaft you got and put it in an HEI housing. Look at the bottom of the dizzy shaft and shine a light down the hole in the motor, make sure that stuff is gonna hook up. Did it come with points or just no dizzy?

I just dropped in a Mallory Comp 900 Dis and never checked anything.  LOL  Worked great.  I still have the HEI I pulled out of it but don't know if that was original or not.

o mine has like a hex drive on the oil pump not the same as a normal one. and im being told that if i dont change the pistons i wont be happy with it

Someone is leading you into more work than needs to be done.  Pistons are fine.  These things are torque monsters.  If you want high HP and high RPM build something else.  If your content with no high revs then leave it be and run it.

Just curious what gain could come from just changing the piston? More compression maybe lighter?  Either way I can't see where the cost will be worth the gain. I know nothing about tall decks except I'm gonna use the tall deck lsx block to build a 500ci small block over the summer!

The pistons are very expensive. Use what ya got, youll be fine!
