i bought my sister a sunpro super tach II (the midsize one) cuz she didnt have a factory tach in her 92 chevy truck. i ran all the wires correctly the backlight works and all but the needle wont move! i tried multiple wires off the coil and nothing works! is the truck ignition style the reason why its not working? it just doesnt make sense as to why it wont work.... anybody have a clue?
U hook the tach wire to the distributor not the coil

not the 90s, one white wire goes to the distributor, the other goes nowhere. this is the lead that goes to the tach.

well i tried BOTH and still neither worked even tho from what ive read it needs to be the white wire off the coil....
Didn't it come with instructions. If you follow them you usually get good results. If its used you got had.

it was brand new. yes it had instructions all were follwed. it was brand new off the autozone shelves
are you sure your getting 12v to the power?
good ground?
when you turn the key forward, does the needle jump?
if not them 3 might have to take it back and get a different one...

its taking power from the power wire that goes into the light switch. ground is good i beleive cuz the backlight comes on and everything.... some sheet that also came with it has somekind of compatibility listings or something and that gen truck aint listed, or barely any chevys for that matter.... does it require some kind of signal isolater to make it work?
it shouldnt...
I have a sunpro tach in my truck and it hooks up to a streetfire msd. It didn't work but did off the distributor without the msd... i had to get a tach addapter in order for it to work.
i put a small sunpro tach in a 2.5 s10 hooked i think it was the green wire to the coil and it works good
i had the same one in my 94 i justfound the wire that went no were off the coil and hoked it up never had any problem use an ohm meter on the wire see if it has continuity betwen the tach and coil then check to see if it is putting out a signal on the ohm meter i dont know if yours will have it but mine has a rpm setting just......... did you hook up power and ground backward's?

red power, black ground. signal was checked off the coil ground too. it had continuity
id say ya need a new one. if you have power, ground, and signal, what else could it be ???
i bet what happened is that you hooked the green wire to the wrong wire on the coil, and fried it...
even if you dont wanna buy a new one, borrow a buddies.
i have a 94 with a tach in it, works great...
if its stock ignition, you shouldnt need a tach adaptor...

i hooked it up to the tach test wire. that little white wire with that connector thats just layin there from the factory harness. is it also possible i may not have a good enough ground? its grounded yes, off one of the plastic panel support brackets, but could it need a better one?

well i figured since the backlight in it comes on it was good enough. its not like theres a whole lot of choices for grounds under a dash lol
find some steel, put a connector on the wire, sheetmetal screw that rig right in. ++peace

but would that little difference be what is causing the problem overall?
never know... like i said i would try a buddies, or take that one back. only 3 wires, not much else to do to...
unless there is someone else here that has an idea ???
the tach adapter is made by msd so u can get it almost anywhere, but u might want to call sunpro first and ask them if thats what ur issue is.
redid the ground straight to the firewall. still no use
