Title: 91 GMC IFS ?
Post by: old school truck dude on March 13, 2011, 06:18:25 PM
Went to go  down the road the other day and the right front wheel locked up and would not turn at all, was tryin to make a flat spot on the tire. Stopped, got out and looked, didnt see nothin so tried to go again, would not turn. Get back in truck and put in reverse and back up, makes a poppin sound and the wheel would now turn. Went on to work, 7 miles. Go to leave work and get the same deal, but made it home. Noticed it was occasionally pullin to the right but not just all the time. Raised it up and looked at caliper and its free, wheel bearing appears to have slight amount of slop, but rotor would spin freely both forward and backward. Put back together after makin sure caliper wasnt rusted and/or froze and tried it, same deal, it locks up tight and wont turn. Would this be the wheel bearing or the front differential? The wheel bearing is $100, so I dont want to buy it if its the differential.. Any ideas?  ==doh ;D

And its definitely the wheel bearing. Is the steering knuckle gonna probably end up bein bad as well? That bearing is majorly shot. bump

whatever you do dont drive without the c/v axle in there unless you like going down the road on 3 tires and a control arm.

steering knuckle shoud be fine but while you got the wheel bearing out check your ball joints ;D
