Which of these two are stronger?
easier to find parts?
more aftermarket capabilities??
Which of these two are stronger? 30 spline 10bolt from 89-91 Suburbans or K5 Blazers
easier to find parts? Both
more aftermarket capabilities?? Dana44
Note:
Dana44's have a 30 spline axle as well...however the axle tube is not as strong as the 10bolt's.
The 10 bolt has a larger Pinion diameter.
However the U joints are the same and are usually the first thing to break on either axle.
All in all though I prefer my 89-91 30 spline 10bolt, had one in my Burban with Spicer 760x U-Joints and beat the living crap out of it for 3 years and never had a failure...ask anyone who has gone wheeling with me a few summers ago I was not nice to the Burban at all ==roll
I would chose a D44 over a 28 spline 10bolt though...other people may have different opinions and these are all just my opinions on the questions asked, this question has been beat to death on many forums, some say the D44 others say the 10bolt, they both have their strengths and weaknesses!
whichever one you can get for the right price ==2cents there's not enough of a difference to wory about I've run both and broke both and I'm running a 10bolt right now and don't feel the need to change.

x2
EITHER AXLE IS GOOD, I'D TAKE EITHER ONE,
BOTH ARE ABOUT EQUAL IN STRENGTH, BUT THE 44 MIGHT HAVE A SLIGHT EDGE
Get a 60 and b done lol.
ya for real world driving and playin git a d60-n-14 bolt. your gunna break to many parts with 10 or 44 so let the smaller guys have them, (other than budjet not good for much)
find me one around 500-1000 and i might think about it
i have a 10 bolt in the front of my truck its a 81 suburban. 10 bolt 308 gears running cut 38.5 ground hawgs. hasnt broke yet
i think wat im going to do is find a d44 and use it and later on down road when i can find a good deal on a 60 snag it.
and is the leaf spring perches on a chevy wider than a ford?

OH so I'm a little guy ??? 42-44's 500+hp ??? well If I'm a little guy I'd hate to see what you think the "big" trucks are.....
If you do a couple slight mods and get some of the weight off the front of your vehicle like I did a 10bolt or 44 can last....................

yes your the little guy! jeeps are small! lmfao
The 44 and 10 bolt will be light weight and will take you anywhere, but chances are it will let go in the worst spot, becouse it is a weeker axle. same if you had a nissan or any other axle under it its small and eventualy WILL break. but at the cost of axle swaps why not go bigger other axles are everywhere, but most of all i think is funny is the guys who build custom trussed housings for there 10 bolt or 44. why do it your waisting your time other than looks. but if you keep the tires turning and they dont bind up YES IT WILL LAST! but the guy with anything biger than 35 is gunna eat bearings, iv done it and it will happen.
im thinking a king pin dana 60 out of ford now lol to much work finding d44
I took a d44 and upgreded it to chrome-oly shafts and good spicer u-joints, beat the crap out of it with 40 and 44 boggers never broke any shafts but did destroy the 410 r&p, changed r&p and went back to betten crap out of it. when got new motor built upgraded to d60, still got the d44, love the d44
well see for the price of chromolies i can get a d60 lol
10 bolts are a slightly stronger setup, but it wont matter unless you get a u joint strong enough to hold up longer than a shaft. 10 bolts ran more recent in the chevy's, which in my opinion makes them easier to find. I'm putting in my 3rd set (because I found its cheaper to change axles than gears) Its an 8 lug, but everything inbetween the caliper brakets is the same. I've only broke a u-joint, and had I just replaced it, I would have been fine. one simple rule will keep you out of trouble in any axle: dont stomp on it with the wheels cranked, get the tires turning, then turn the wheel.
yes up grade when you can i got hundres of broken 10bolts they dont like it over a 38 -40" tire
stock
i ran dana 44 fronts and corp 10 bolt with tires from 33s to 44s the 10 bolt i broke it alot and the 44 i did till i modifided the axle a little to put full clips on the u-joint caps big difference the problem i found is the c clips dont hold up and you end up spiting a cap and good night axle a dana 60 can break to but a 44 is a lot lighter id like to have a 44 for the wieght savings but 44" trator tires are a bit much for them ;D

good call Clyde, I run 35's
i have a 10 bolt front with 44s and it holds up just fine for me i only average 1 or 2 axels a year last year i never broke an axel so i like the 10 bolt...just dont buy cheap u-joints and use comon sence when wheelin dont come up on hard pack with your foot stuck in it
