okay so i just bought a 1987 gmc 1/2 with a 350 and a 3 speed with a creeper gear and a np208 transfer case took it muddin the last weekend out at inwood truck ran fine before and im not much of a trans guy so heres the question after muddin i turned down the road and went to shift into second and when i let of the clutch nothing happend it sounded like it was stuck in nuetral.. but i could feel it shifting into the gears...so would that be my clutch plates stickin or somthing with my t case? and i also found out that in the front of the t case is leakin could that pose a problem with this? please give me some tips trucks my DD
is it a mechanical clutch linkage or hydraulic? being 87 i would imagine hydraulic...
Sounds like to me its t case... When u shifted it did u feel the 2 libs or just one? Does it shift into the other gears?
Give a little more detail on this, what do you mean you could feel it shifting into the gears? Its a manual, you do the shifting.. Are you saying you put it in gear but the truck wouldnt go? ??? ???
If the t-case works for all the other gears with no problems i dont think anything is wrong with it. If you are leakinf fluid... check your trans fluid level you may be low and if all that id fine you may have blown 2nd gear in your tranny if everything else works. More details on what it is doing will be more helpful to try to determine what your problem may be.
mud in clutch?
Prob mud in clutch. Idk for sure tho. Pull the stick and put an automatic in it if its gonna see mud

its machanical
Does the linkage actually move the clutch fork? Can you see into the bellhousing? We gotta figure out if its the clutch, the trans or the t-case, and then go from there. Could it be between gears on the t-case shifter? Have you moved the t-case shifter all around to see if its hung up or somethin?
i can feel it shift into every gear the truck just wont move. i think its mud in the clutch because when i push in the clutch its pretty rough so im going to wait till it warms up a bit an run some water threw their so nothing freazes up and i belive i blew the front seal in the t case is that gonna be difficault to replace if i just drop the t case and do it off of the truck or can i do it on the truck? thanks guys for the help.

Im startin to think you got a busted t-case. You say you can feel it go into gear when you shift it, Im guessin you can feel the gears turnin in the trans and the clutch engaging the trans, but the truck wont move, hmmm.. If you can get the top off the trans Id look in there and see if your trans output shaft moves when its in gear, Im thinkin it does. If so, problem is in the t-case. Process of elimination, gotta see what works and what dont. With the t-case leakin, if its much of a leak you need to fix that anyways and whatever is leakin might be somethin busted or wore out right there.
Most of the time, even when a clutch is slippin, itll still give a little bit of pull. If youre just feelin stuff spinnin but the truck aint movin, Im thinkin t-case is broke cuz of the leak - its kind of like a clue, ya know.. Hard to say without it sittin here.. Wish I had my own 4x4 shop ;D ==wgm
