Title: new truck/project
Post by: tonkatruckon44s on March 25, 2011, 06:14:30 AM
this will be more of a dd than a mud toy bc its a nice truck but i got this truck off ********* and no hard feelings toward him. it runs good but someone didnt know how to remove a fuel line and pinched it not too bad but enough to starve it for gas. then the rebuilt trans has a leak at the pan. every single shock was finger tight. there were 4 lug nuts on each tire. its got a 14 bolt ff rear with 12 bolts in the diff cover. the rear lines were pinched off instead of relocating the bracket 2 bolts over so you could run the stock flexline.  the steering draglink didnt have a crown nut on the bottom of it therefore the steering arm end of the drag link could have popped off at anytime and it got wore out. the rear u joint was finger tight. the carb didnt have a throttle return spring on it a 4 dollar part. he had the truck idling at like 2000 rpm with no stall converter in the trans or anything like that. the batter had a hole and leaked acid good thing i kept my new battery. the roll bar in the bed was not bolted down. pretty much i am the third owner of the truck the first guy took care of this truck and did everything right. redneck did everything halfway. so then i have to go and fix everything that wasnt done. i traded a truck that needed crossover steering put on found it from dana 60 king for 200 and sparkplugs but the sparkplugs werent necessarry. oh yeah i forgot the best part the damn thing was a byTch to steer when i got it cause he didnt know how to tighten a power steering and altenator belt and ruined the 2 on there. mostly everything was more time consuming than anything else but overall the body is real nice on it and the motor runs good now eventhough the fuel line has not came in from lmc yet. i drive the truck everyday.

here is what the truck is its an 84 chevy cruise control even works in it has a dana 44 front and corp 14 ff rear 208 transfer 350 trans and "350" motor original tag says 5.0 but redneck swears 350. not too worried . he gave me it with 265 rears and 285 fronts on dodg 8 lug rims i put a set of 37 military oz tires on it that i had from my suburban fit perfect with that 6 inch lift still trying to get pics posted but it wont let me .

my plans for it are to put the fuel line on, i already tightened everything up, replace the drag link, rhino line or diy kit the top of the bed rail and bottom 3 inchesish of the truck, fix the leaking sunroof , i want to put a reese hitch on the rear of it and actually put on the front brush guard he gave me, go trough the vaccum lines. hook up the tack in the truck. i pretty much wanna make this truck a nice dd and a worthy trail rig

again  all im trying to get out there is everything i had to do to the truck to make it road worthy, and to let everyone know to look very carefully when they buy something.

for the record i was just stating the things i have had to do to it so far i fixed the trans leak it needed the drain plug tightened up on it and i put a new draglink end on at the steering arm today ill take some pics tomorrow the guy i got it from is a good guy i just dont think he can wrench on trucks as well as he thinks. i gotta take the truck back to sears to get it realigned too because it pulls to the right. i still wanna get a hitch for it so i can tow a trailer looking for one as we speak. ill be installing new door lock cylinders tomorrow then once i get my paycheck i will be getting new wheel cylinders and probably shoes for the rear while i have the drums off. Then i will be getting a new mirror or just the glass too. and i will order a new gas line too. i have been driving the truck daily for about 2 weeks now and when its cold it acts like its starving for fuel/air idk which i think it is fuel because of the slightly pinched gas line. anyone know where to get egr blockoff plate from?

I just grind the tip off the egr and use a thick piece of gasket paper that covers the whole triangle shape and punch the bolt holes in it, good coat of silicone on it too, works good. Plug the vacuum line with a bb and put it back on there, loll
