1/8 or 1/4 sheet metal thats what i seen them use on trucks or one of them shows. but i would go with 1/8 inch i think that is all you would need since the frame probably isnt much thicker than that.

i would use 1/4", the 80's chevy pickup frames were about 1/4". 4x8' sheet of 1/4" is $215.

Lot of waste doin it like that, just take some measurements of the parts you want to box in and buy flat 3/16-1/4" stock the correct width and a bit longer than you need. You can ask for scraps in the sizes you need at the steel place and save a few bucks..

i dont agree with that, 'scraps', or drops, are still gonna have to be cut to your size needed, making waste, and they charge more per lb than you would pay for a full sheet. and if you have them cut your material, its not cheap. webber steel, full sheet $215, half sheet $187. bought one last week.

A second frame is a good idea, and technicaly all dont have to be boxed bits and pieces uniform all the way would be good, and I would ad crossmembers front and rear to help box tube would work good. just to help keep the frame from flexing any more than it has to! thats how worn rivets and cracked frame happen.

Are you gonna box it completely, or just piece it in between the crossmembers and stuff?

whatever your frame heighth is, 6 inches or 8 inches whatever, you can buy pre cut 8 to 20 foot strips of 1/8 flat from weber steel pretty reasonable.

I did a CJ frame with one 4" tube cut in half, notched it at the bends..
tapped it into place and welded it up.. worked good.
