Mmmmk. 93 Ranger has 129k or so and dizzy gear failed. Replaced the whole distributor and well I didn't get it exactly as it was before, but it was probably off anyways. My question, ladies and gentlemen, is how do I install the distributor stator facing when bringing the number 1 piston to TDC aligned with the vibration dampener and timing chain cover mark from front of engine bay view? Any help is much obliged. Giving this to my grandfather so he has his own vehicle instead of using my grandma's and leaving her home alone. :) a=f
I guess im not understanding, but put #1 up all the way and timing mark perfect with timing mark on dampner, then it dont matter how twisted around the distributer is slap it in, and find #1 spark plug and it has to line up so move your wires to line up, and adjust distributer. and adjust timing with timing gun. AM i forgeting anything?
Found this, its for a 93 ford 3.0 4x4. Most motors gotta have the #1 in the right spot or the plug wires will be all screwed up and wont reach ;D
thanks cnoswalt78. You explained exactly what I was trying find. Where the rotor is positioned. The repair manual doesn't state that. I guess it's common sense now that I think about it haha. Not really concerned with a timing gun, I just turn it till runs smoothest.

no you can not just turn the distributer, it needs to be set with light. but on full size trucks and vans have a chip you pull so you can set the timing that takes the computer out so you can set it. if you don't do this it will not run right.

I did not need the picture. I have the repair manual. But thank you. I am always on a computer for WGM. YAlso, you CAN just turn the distributor, does retarding or advancing the timing effect mpg jc? This also has the chip you are talking about it though. . It's called a PIP. Forgot what it stands for.
You mite ought to use a light. A few degrees off one way or the other over time could cause premature piston failure. The specs call for a certain setting because thats where its designed to run the best at. Too much advance makes burnt pistons, too little makes backfire and poor performance. Close aint good enough unless you just dont care if you burn it up or not.
Well there is a specific way to do it lol. Advance it until it stops rising the idle, back off slightly until it stops hesitating at idle. Redo and repeat 2-3 times.
