we just put a turbo 400 trans in my buddies truck, the trans is out of a 77 chevy 4x4.
we got the trans all hooked up and when not, when he puts it in gear it take the truck so much to get moving, like the motor is almost red lining before it gets rolling or shifts. and hes trans fluid is milky pink, not dark the way it should be and it seems dillouted. any ideas on wtf is going on?
Sounds like its full of WATER!!! You got big trouble right there! Pull it back out, pull pan, change filter, replace convertor, flush lines and cooler. Maybe you can save it...

yeah thats what we were told, what you think about the clutches? we were told they may be shot
And is it possible that it's pilling the water from the radiator?
If clutches got wet there toast. But id try what old school said b4 u rebuild.....pm me I got a good trans guy that's closer to yer side of town
And would water in the trans explain the no go issue?

Yes....water in it would make it not go
It can live through this if youll quitt revvin it tryin to make it go. If it dont pull like its supposed to, stop and figure out why. The longer it slips, the worse the damage. Its slippin because water and fluid mixed together makes bubbles and transmissions dont run on air. You must replace the converter, you cant get the water out of it. If you have clutch material in the pan, shes done, there will probably be some shavings, no big deal - we are worried about pieces of things. Yes it can get in there from the radiator and thats why we keep sayin use an a/c condensor for a trans cooler, that way theres no chance of water and/or antifreeze gettin into the trans. Must have been sittin around outside for a while before it was installed. Once you get it all back together, leave the lines unhooked up front and let it pump some of the nasty into a bucket or whatever. Keep addin fluid till it comes fairly clean. One line is pressure and the other is return, youll see which is which as soon as you start it up. Stick a hose on the suction line and put it in a jug of fresh fluid so its suckin fresh fluid into itself, dont let it run dry. ;D
