well I got a 4.3 vortec to put in the tracker. tore it down to check it all over and it spun 3 main bearings a little and chewed up a couple other bearings. wondering if i have to get the mains line bored or if it will be ok. guess i will tear it down and take it in and find out what has to be done to it. was hoping to just replace the bearings but guess not. crank has to be turned i know that. so i guess its a good idea to get it hot tanked and just go thru the whole thing and make sure it wont blow up on its first run. so its looking like it wont go in the tracker till next winter. but at least i have it and can go from there.
the bearing should take most of the beating. dont think you would have to do the mains, unless it ate right thru...
i dont think it ate thru it just spun then about a 1/4 turn but that could have gone all the way around and stopped there. not sure i need to pull the crank but i cant get the harmonic balancer off and i dont have a puller gonna have to go buy one lol
Id say go threw it cory, mise well, save up some cash n put a cam n p00 in it, I wanna rebuild the motor in my blazer put a cam n rockers n springs n p00, its gonna need bearings soon, my last oil change there was alot of burning material, looked like I had metalic bronze oil....
yeah i found a complete cam kit for 725 ouch lol. but by the write up i read with that cam kit and a few other things it was over 300 hp. that would be nice to have lol.
ought to be sweet in your tracker
still working on mine
its always better to be safe than sorry....

pic of motor
looks good what size carb and what all did you do to the motor? where you get the dist at?
carb is a 470 cfm truck avenger from holley and distributor is new from white perf. in tennesse thru e-bay 65,000volts hei 49. +10. shipping
stock 01 4.3 vortec heads need to get oil cooler to hook up to oil lines and add oil to start it
cool i was going to get that same dist. let me know how it works for ya. i have a remote oil system that i wont use. i want to go with the stock location for that. i was going to go with a 600cfm holley carb hope that isnt too much carb but the build up i seen online they used a 650 and it worked better for them 300 hp. but i'm sure theres was built more than i plan to go with mine since its gonna cost a lot to do.
