im lookin at possibly gettin a used MSD 6al ignition box for my 400 sbc im building, but i dont know a whole lot bout em and what they require.... do i need a distributor that requires an ignition box to run? will a regular coil in cap one work? im open to any suggestions for what works too
what about one like this:

I bought a 6AL box and a kit to modify a GM HEI dist. You pretty much gut the dist and there is an adapter that goes on top of dist cap that looks like it has a spark plug sticking out, which runs over to an external Blaster II coil. It ran great but I had issues with moisture. Now I use MSD's in cap kit. You get a new module, which has adj rev limiter built in, MSD cap and rotor and MSD coil. I have these on 4 different motors now and love em. Im sure you can buy an actual MSD dist too that would work with the 6AL box too.
I got a 6al billet dissy and blaster 2 coil and love it!! one of my best mods.. but you can use the box with the right parts to a hei style dissy if it was me I would have my pennys and get a pro billet dissy or some thing like that with a off road msd coil!
buy a new dist. why use some thing that has tons miles on it. new one that you can cruve easy.
Me and Trent wired 1 up in his truck last summer using the stock distributor and coil it was pretty easy

thats why i was lookin into what kind of dist would work. and i cant find an "offroad coil", only some high vibration ones
I think the blaster 3 is the off road one...

its not the blaster 3. thats still an oil filled canister. the HVC ones are epoxy filled, but theyre not the canister style
