Title: HEI coil
Post by: TopFist on May 01, 2011, 01:53:19 AM
What the HELL would cause a Chevy HEI coil to burn up??? 2 in 2 days...Smells like there getting hot. Any ideas? Could it be a grounding issue? Motor starts missing then boom burnt coil.

Theres a little strip of metal that is a ground strap that goes in there with the coil, is it in there? Rotor button got a pinhole in it? Dead short on the 12 volt wire to it? Could definitely be a ground problem, when electric cant find a place to go it starts doin some real strange stuff. Check alternator output and make sure it aint runnin wild when the motor is revved up ;D

check teh metal ground strap that goes in under the coil make sure it's in good shape and that the second ground that goes on the top that's held in place by the screw is good too, and the block to body ground is good,
