How and what do you use? I used a 4000psi washer and hosed out under the hood of my zuk and it popped some of the plug wires off the dist cap and it just got me thinking about dielectric grease and such especially since I have to sometimes tap on my battery post to start it. I haven't really had any problems besides when I got my air filter wet when it was still tiny on 31s lol. I will soon have it snorkeled but was wondering about the other areas and what to do about them?
Die electric silicone on all plug wire connections and any other wiring connections. Spray down Dist with WD-40, and i cut up old inner tube and put over dist cap and zip tie on.
You gotta keep the mud out of the alternator or it will grind up the bearings, use some kind of rubber matting to close up the engine compartment as best you can but be careful to keep it away from the exhaust so it dont catch on fire.. cover the front and the bottom of the radiator with window screen so mud cant get in there and clog it up, and use a couple screws to hold it in place so you can just tear it off after a bog.. Do the same for the trans cooler, and dont mount the trans cooler directly to the radiator core, leave an inch or 2 of space if possible..There are vent hoses on the axles that might be too low, extend them up higher, theres a vent tube on top of most transmissions that needs to be extended. You may think most of this stuff wont be a problem, but if you accidentally drive off into somethin way deeper than you thought, youre prepared ;D
all very sound advice better to do it right the first time or you will learn the hard way. We are pulling our breather air from inside the cab.
Pullin air from the drivers compartment is unsafe in most folks opinion, better to just run it up high somewhere like along the windshield pillar or somethin like that, if it backfires you have it in your face and you got nowhere to go. Most competition bogs say that you cant pull air from the drivers compartment and its because of the safety issue. I wouldnt run it any higher than my sitting shoulder height, unless you got scuba gear - gotta be practical, you can only go so deep before you start blowin bubbles ;D
if you use marine air filters they are anti backfire and flame retardant k&n are also
Id like to build me one for my 90 GMC like tractors have with the dust catcher thing up high, make it so its removable for the road ;D
