Ok got my motor together Anne got a noise like a lifter tick but louder. I have no clue what it is. I know it is not a lifter, fuel pmp, balancer,.
Has anyone heard of a oil pump be very noisiest? I do have 65psi. At idle
Please I need help
I had the bolts on my torque converter loosen up before on my 396 and it sounded like a loud tick/knock

I run it with out it bolted up also
What type of heads are you running? make sure the pushrods are not hitting the heads ++peace
wheres it comin from? fly wheel hittn inspection plate on trans..?
exhaust tight, have herd a couple sound like lifter ticks before..or rockers hitting the valve covers?
World S/R torker heads. It's a fresh motor. Don't have a inspection cover on it yet. I'm going to change the flex plate tonight.
Can't pinpoint where the noise is coming from
does it sound like its coming from a certain side of the motor, and does it do it all the time or just at higher rpms.
++peaceDoes it all time. Can't tell where it's coming from

I had a bad bearing in a water pump that made the motor "knock" but that was a 2.5L loll
I hear of guys talking about wrist pins making a knocking noise.
Pull the plug wires one at a time and put back like youre lookin for a miss. You can shut it off each time, no big deal. If the knock stops or changes when you have that cylinder cancelled, you got trouble for sure. Is it a stroker motor? If its a stroker, could be a clearance issue. Are the bolts that hold the cam sprocket on tight? Dont run it much till you figure out what it is.
I think I figured it out. I pulled the heads off and it looks like the pistons are hitting the heads right on the cnc Rigel. Like only 5thou. I'm going to grind it and see what happens
Grind the head a little to clear? Just go real gentle if you do, water jacket in there somewhere.. Gotta try and do all the chambers the same way much as possible itll work, might still rattle a little bit at higher rpm, just have to wait n see ;D whats a cnc rigel?
Be a lot easier just to run a thicker head gasket.

agreed,
Makes me kinda wonder if the pistons got mushroomed any at all.. Depending on how close the ring grooves are to the spot where the piston was hittin the head, it would also make me wonder if if the ring groove could be pinchin the ring.. If it were mine, Id probably wanna look at that before I ran it again, make sure the rings aint seized up in the grooves..
