Title: vortec 350 issues
Post by: dodgeramsport on July 18, 2011, 05:21:31 PM
the truck is a 97 Chevy 1500 ecsb z71 with a vortec 350, I bought it with no exhaust, it runs horrible since it had no o2 sensors at all and open manifolds, salvage yards can't sell cats, and brand new is 600 bucks, it has 2 o2 sensors on the manifold and 2 behind the cats, I was wondering if I need cats? will it run right without them on the vortec, I've heard on vortec motors I can't just bypass them? if I can will I still need to put the other 2 o2 sensors in? or does any one have a full exhaust they would be willing to sell at a fair price for this truck? thanks

Cat is not going to cost you $600, run a Y-pipe into a single 3" exhaust pipe and then a universal cat, then run a single pipe out of the cat into a muffler and tail pipe/pipes of your choice, you should be able to do the whole exhaust for under $600 including cat!

You need the 2 O2 sensors in the manifold and you can delete the after cat O2 sensors with a custom tune, waitformeperformance.com will custom tune your computer for $75 and have get some extra horse power while your at it.

the reason its 600 bucks is cuz thats not only cats but its all the pipe thats before them too all the way up to the manifolds. basically the front third of the exhaust. if you get the custom tune to delete the ones after the cats, i wouldnt even put cats on then

well I got my new exhaust and o2 sensors today, I think I found the main issue to the poor running and no power, the egr tube from the egr to manifold was cut and pinched off, I hope the egr tube and new exhaust and o2 sensors makes a huge difference
